Let's fill this LS1 section up! What car do you have and what mods have you done? Post pictures aswell!

My car is an automagic VX R8 Clubsport. Sting red in color, premium leather option, premium sunroof, it is pretty much fully optioned except for GPS.

I brought it what I thought was stock but found that it infact that without the MAF inplace and when I spoke to Steve from OzTrack, some things I described to him, he suggested must have been tampered with. For example, when I was giving the car a bit it would often swing sideways when it smashed into 2nd, so the gearbox shift pressures were set pretty high, unlike stock!

Anyway, first set of mods. I'm also going to list prices for people who are interested in going down a simular path!

Power Torque OTR CAI - $500 (I reccomend buying one of the DUS OTR CAI from OzTrack tuning rather than these)
84mm BBK Throttle Body - $250
LS6 manifold- $???
Pacemaker Tri Y's - $500ish brand new
Twin 3" XForce system, Hiflow Cats - $1000
3600rpm Stall Convertor (Gilroys Automatics) - $800ish
Strengthened 4L65E box (Craigs Automatics) - $4000ish
3.9 diff gears - $Swapped these with a bloke as I originally had 3.46 but allow $500
OzTrack Mail Order MAFLESS Tune - $600

This has so far managed to net a couple of 13.2 @ 107mph passes! Have run 108mph on a slower 13.4 pass.

I have a whole heap of sh8t sitting in the cupboard and it has been for a while. I have been wanting to have this installed for ages but I just keep buying more and more things plus moving out of home into our own place didn't help!

232/ 242 INT .574 EXH .594 112LSA Custom Ground Comp Cam
LS2/6 243 Castings heads
Patriot Extreme Valvesprings
Caddilac Racing Lifters
Manley Pushrods
Rollmaster Single Replacement Timing Chain
Cometic Head Gaskets
ARP Headbolts
ARP Rodbolts
Pacemaker 1 7/8 4 into 1 Extractors

Fuel Sytem
White 36lb injectors - $550
Bosch 044 External Pump - $200
Walbro 255L Internal Pump - $200
Aeromotive A1000 Regulator - $250
Aeromoative Fuel Pressure Guage - $50
FAST Fuel Rails - $250
Minipro 2.5L Surge Tank - $350
Lots of -6 and a bit of -10 fuel line - $100
Lots of PFE fittings - $400
ZEX Wet System, going to run a 100shot - $700

As you can see there is over $2000 in fuel system components alone but this is a pretty important aspect of a car so it's worth it plus the $700 odd for the gas setup.

There is around $6000 - $6500 worth of parts in that total list but I can't remember all individual prices off the top of my head.

Thinking I am going to get a FAST manifold and Harland Sharp 1.7:1 rockers, but not to sure. I would like to net 125mph, over 130mph would be a bonus but see what happens.

The labour and tuning costs to have this gear installed will top $3000 - $4000 so if you are looking at something like this and like the NA route allow $10,000 but you could probably do it a fair way cheaper or pay like $15,000 and have a mad TT LS1!

Jason.

Dude I wish I had half the stuff you had on your clubby! I got an '05 VZ SS ute in quicksilver.

So far all I have is:
-HSV airbox
-Hi-po leads and plugs (had a plug with a fair amount of carbon build up ?detonating, still need a tune though)
-Mild steel 2 1/2" cat-back
-Throttle bypass (didn't do much, but for sh*ts and giggles...)
-Superlows front & rear
-Pioneer DVD player with focal splits, RF amps, RF cap, and RF 10" sub
...and that is it so far.

What I would want and what I will get are two vastly different lists however. I'm just restricting it at a tune, extractors (already have!), hi-flow cats, s/stell cat-back, upgrade the suspension a bit more, and bigger brakes.

That's it... for now at least!

Don't call bullsh*t on an internet forum when your 400kms away and have never seen the car in full swing. dry.gif

I said it would often, not always. Ultimately, Steve suggested that the shift pressures being set far to high is probably what f*cked my gearbox. A bit of hard driving might have contributed. biggrin.gif

Now the strengthened 4L65E shifts very, very firm dropping back to stall speed, but nothing crazy like it used to do.

Jason.

EDIT: Here is some pictures of the car.

243 Castings* They are the heads from the 6L VZ R8's and Z06 Corvette's. Not 253's. tongue.gif

I don't really know if I'll bother. They come in at 215cc which is right inbetween Dart Pro 205's and 225's. I think they flow pretty well as they are so I won't bother having them ported any further.

They already knock the compression ratio up a tad on the LS1 as it is and I chose thinner head gaskets which will knock it up a tad further also. That should hopefully help down low where the cam is obviously going to lack because it's such a big duration but should be heaps of fun up top.

Think I'd rather spend money on labour for porting in other area's.

I know which castings you were talking about, gotta love typos... I iz gud at teh keybord! laugh.gif
Funnily enough they use the heads off the L98 (can't remeber the casting code) on the new LS3 cause they flow better than the 243 heads from the LS2.

That's fair enough with regard to the head work. It will be good to see how it goes when you get it all together. Are you going to do the bottom end in the future? ... You know you want to! wink.gif

Yeah but unfortunately the L98 heads don't fit on an LS1 block without a bit more modification so they are out of the question.

A 383 stroker kit or a V2 Vortech would be pretty nice but I don't know how FI with go with my chosen cam due to the ammount of overlap.

So when is all this getting installed. And will you still only run street tyres at the drags??

Hopefully when every single little bit is in the cupboard, instead of in the post.

I am thinking there are other things I would like to buy first but, like Rockers and Manifold, etc which will set the date back a bit. But, building these fast cars takes cash and that takes time to acquire.

Not running on 18" street slicks anymore I am hoping.

I may have had too many JD's, but did you say above that "you hope you don't run on 18" slicks" or you are??

I've read it a few times and can't make sentence of it.

You would have to change your rear brakes I know that much but I'm still confused.

Yeah I originally wanted to run on 18" MT's but now what I'm thinking of doing is..

a) Having my diff in the car with the big brakes and 18" with Pirrelli P Zero semi slicks

and

cool.gif Having another diff with whatever diff gear ratio I find is best (might have to drop back to 3.73's or something) with them shafts that VooDoo posted up on nqhsv-ls1.com.au with a set of aftermarket axles (haven't looked into it yet so I don't know much about these) and smaller brakes so I can run MT streets which I would hope will grip up well enough with the 100shot.

This won't happen for a while anyway because I was only telling Cody I am due for a trip away last week and have booked that which is just another expense inbetween wanting to get the car done. I think that's a good idea anyway.

Cody has offered to put the brakes from the Caprice onto my car a few times but I guess we'd actually have to give it a go to see if they will fit or not. I know Mick had problems on his VT R8.

What is it with 20's..... its the new IT thing. I honestly think you should leave the stockers on there as they would look good with the car lowered or go for some dished 18's to toughen it up. In my opinion when i see a car with 20's or bigger it just makes the car look like those bloody micro machines with huge wheels and a tiny body.

Any event haven't seen your clubby out in ages Jason, hows all the work going?
