Channel Seven Local News Report 18th November 2010.



Funny how this topic was so active in the beginning, now it has full approval no one is coming forward to show there support, it's all most as if you guys out there don't want this at all. Come on get behind this; if the developmental work in Townsville continues at the rate it is the Townsville Dragway will be squeezed out sooner; meaning we have to travel all the way to Mackay, Townsville's days are number unfortunately.

16-18 hour round trips towing a trailer all the way to Mackay don't seem to logical when we have the opportunity to have our own track up here.

Wow that last comment could spark a lot of debate, there are some pretty dedicated drag racers, drfiters, burnout competitors etc on here that I know of so that was a bold statement hope it was aimed at getting them fired up about this topic and not trying to get them off side. Anyways here's the link to the seven news report again........ Come on Cairns and North Queensland Get behind this..... It won't happen with out you all..

There isn't much people can talk about. It has all been said. People are just waiting now. People know it is happening and they need members but it's all going to be behind the scenes, not chit chat here. Most of the people have probably signed up already.... not much people can talk about, just wait.

Just going through the membership list at present, there a couple of QSS members on here that's it, very surprising indeed, would have thought they'd all be jumping on board. Suppose it's a bit like I was told the other day people still don't realize it's happening. Might have to do the old fashion leaflet handout on a Saturday morning around all the car parks, see if we can get more stuff in the paper and on the news; get the word out there and get more members. Without a decent member base the government won't look at it.

The Next SDRA General Meeting will be on 9th December 2010


in Atherton at the Atherton Hotel (The Stump) at 7.30pm.

Please try and arrive 10-15 mins early so we can get started on time.

Members please attended and have your say, and get the latest news on whats
happening.

The primary purpose of this meeting is for amending our constitution to
enable us to affiliate with ANDRA, and taking care of other general
business.

Presidents Report 17-1-2011

Hi Members

Happy New Year to you all.

We have just had our first committee meeting of the year and I have a few things to report.

1st. We have had some enquires from Business's and Event Promoters wanting to advertise on our web site. The committee decided what we can offer them a mail out service where we would email their advertising to all our members; the committee also decided that a fee of $400.00 would be charged each time it would be sent. Sponsors will receive one of these email outs per year free.

2nd. We have received a letter from the Queensland Minister for Sports; it states that we are eligible for 50% of the total project cost up to a maximum of $2,000,000. To get this amount of funding the first thing they have asked us to do is to undertake a full and professional feasibility study. We are currently going through the process of finding someone to do this study for us; there will obviously be a cost involved for this study.

3RD. Since our general meeting on the 9-12-2010 the committee has had to compromise on the matter of membership fees. The committee has decided that an SDRA Support Form will be drawn up so people that do not want to be Financial Members; but still want to support the club can do so by filling this in, they will then be a non financial member for free. We would keep these forms on file and use these numbers of supporters when we send in the proposals for funding. At the bottom of the form there will be our bank details and business's where any donations can be made, note all correspondence should be directed to the club's post office box address. Membership to the club will still remain at $50.00; I hope that this compromise will end this issue once and for all.

4th. Rico is still working away at a proposal to apply to the Tableland Council for permission to run an 1/8 mile race meeting at the Mareeba Aerodrome. I would like to remind everyone that this is just a proposal at this stage and in no way do we have any answer from anyone yet. The idea behind this is to show the politicians, councilors and public what drag racing is all about and how it will benefit the community.

The Committee and myself would like to thank all our members and sponsors for their support, without their continued support we would not be in such a strong position and I urge everyone to support our sponsors in every way possible, even if you simply recommend them to someone you know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Remember if you want a Drag Strip get involved, every bit helps, it all makes it that much easier.

Why can't you make the form available online! I live in Brisbane, so not much point in me being a financial member, but would definately fill out a form to show my support for a new track, even if it is 2000k's away.

If you have a look at the website, you will find there is infact an online form for this very purpose......

sure is, and Wazz, they do advertise, ive seen it more than once in the paper, if someone doesnt know about this drag strip by now they must live under toad stool....

I was refering to the free form to show support. thats what they need to push rather than try and con everyone out of $50bux straight away.
