March 3rd 2009 De Jarlais Function Centre Cairns Show Ground
Ian Allen, President – Introduced the public to the committee members present and thanked the
them for their attendance. Ian informed those present that the Car Show Committee had
a
meeting on the 25th February 2009 to action ideas for the 2009 Car show. Ian informed that all
ideas are still open for talking and is still happy to take on more and new ideas.
Mr Allan informed those present of the ideas that the Car Show Committee had came up with in
relation to Entry Fees due to it being the main concern for the public.
Idea put to the General Public
–
The entry fee for 2009 will be placed in two stages
Individuals
$5.00 Administration Fee for every car wanting to display either Judged or non Judged, then a
Fee of $5.00 per judging category that they wish to be enter up to (6) once an entrant has more
than 6 categories there will be a fee of $35.00 which will allow unlimited categories to be judged.
There will be no
Passes included within this Entry Fee Price
Clubs
A $100.00 fee for club displays with unlimited numbers of cars that can be displayed within the
event. The Cars within the display will come under NON Judged vehicles. However if a club
member would like their vehicle to be judged the entry fee standards at $5.00 per category or
$35.00 unlimited entry.
There will be no
Passes included within this Entry Fee Price
Mr Allan informed that at the last meeting the public suggested we have a Street Cruise within
the Grounds during the event.
The Car Show Committee agreed with the idea and think it would be a great idea to run the
street cruise during the event.
Mr Allan informed that trying to get Red Light Clear way from QLD Police was hard and did
come at a price. Mr Allan suggested that we run the Street Cruise around the white lines that run
through the Show Grounds.
Blue Scanlon suggested that we have two street cruises during the event.
Open Floor suggestion was that we have it about 4.30pm on the day and that way cars can
come and go as we will be closing the event at 6.00pm on the Saturday night.
With having the street cruise within the event CSA will need to place down rules for example:
All vehicles must stay in 1st Gear or 10km.
Mr Allan requested assistance from the public if anymore knew any contacts of Magazine
companies and if so please forward on to Alison to action for marketing and advertising.
Idea from the floor – Street Machine, Street Action, Cruising Magazine
Mr Allan informed those present that all concerns, grievances and feedback (both positive and
negative) should be addressed to either himself or Alison Stickens, Manager for Cairns Show
Association and that mobile phone numbers will be given to the public to help assist this.
Mr Allan informed the members that the Car Show Committee have agreed to use Locals to help
be our main attraction in order to help cut back costs. Mr Allan also informed that we are trying
to get a Drag Bike and or a V8 Super Car to also use as a main attraction. Mr Allan also stated
that the Cunning Stunt performance boys will be coming back again in 2009 and hoping to put
on a bigger show for us.
Mr Allan informed the meeting of the idea brought up at the last meeting of trying to use the
T.A.F.E to have a engine rebuild competition is in discussion.
Mr Allan informed the public that at the Car Show Meeting the committee have agreed to have
no merchandise for sale due to low sales during 2007 and 2008 evetns and other sites and
entertainers sell there own merchandise during the event.
Mr Allan informed that the committee would like Leigh Holman back again in 2009 with the Dyno,
however would like to relocate him to a new area possibly near the Fig Tree/Fulton Bar area so
that it will be easier for the Public to get their cars in, instead of having to have to go through the
public during the event.
Open Floor suggestion was that we use the Dyno as a marketing tool and advertise it, which will
also bring in more sales for people that didn’t know in 2008 that Dyno was available for public
that didn’t enter there vehicles within the event.
Brian Bailey requested that entertainment is needed at all times throughout the event and CSA
should look at utilising the model car club boys and see if they would like to have like
a
competition or heat races during the event and also look at having FMX as a main attraction and
than utilise them while entrants are getting ready for the Street Cruise.
Ronelle Wegner suggested that we cut the public car park at the back of the grounds to half the
size and use more area for displays and entertainment.
It was also suggested that if CSA did do that we look at moving the model cars over to this area
to keep any dust well away from the display vehicles.
Open Floor suggestion was that we open up the area that we use for the Burnout pad and have
that as a start line for a power take off for the cars in the Street Cruise.
Mr Allan informed that Pinky was booked in again for the 2009 Car show.
Open Floor suggestion was that Pinky maybe needs to plug our sponsors more often so they
feel they are getting value for the sponsorship dollar.
Open Floor suggestion was that the Car Show look at putting a float or a vehicle in the Parade of
Lights to also promote the event. Blue Scanlon suggested using a Tilt Tray Truck with a show
car on the back to save over heating of the vehicle.
Mr Allan thanked Patti Garlando for attending the meeting and wishes that his event runs
smoothly and if he needs any help to contact CSA and wishes that we can work together.
Ronelle Wegner suggested that the bar within Fred Moule be opened during the event for drink
sales.
Open Floor suggestion was that 10.00am was too late to open the gates for the public and
requested that we change the time to 9.00am opening.
Mr Allen approved to change the time to 9.00am
Blue Scanlon ask what time the vehicles in centre ring have to be on grounds for public viewing.
Mr Allen requested that all vehicles be set up in time for the public by 9.00am and are left in
place till at least 6.00pm so that the paying public has the opportunity to view all vehicles.
Open Floor suggested that an email of the minutes be sent out and also a copy of the entry form
prior to the next meeting so public can assist with picking new categories for the event
Rissa to action
Open Floor suggestion was that CSA have encouragement awards to the young kids out there
that have put work into their cars to let people know that we appreciate their work.
Tony Anderson suggested that on the entry form it should state that an updated image is
needed prior to the event if entrants wish for their vehicle to be inside the Fred Moule
Allan Aumuller handed Mr Allen a DVD of the Ingham Car Show with all footage on it and
footage of the Burnout Comp and informed that Laurie is on the DVD. Also Mr Aumuller informed
that you can get coloured burnout tyres from Tyre Power which are very entertaining. Tony
Anderson informed that they do cost a bit but would be willing to put some on his burnout van.
Allan Aumuller informed that he should be able to get a deal on them.
Open Floor discussion in regards to the Water Barriers that were used for the 2008 Auto Spec
not being stable for the safety of the public. Mr Allen also confirmed that he thought that they
were not safe and is looking into getting concrete barriers or the steel ones.
Mr Allen informed the public that Warren Stevenson’s was looking into judges from down South
and asked the public if they approve of Warren assisting in this.
Open Floor discussion about the way Margaret (Sales and Marketing Manager) might be
approaching local business within Cairns. The public believe that companies need to know they
will be getting value for money and that people will know that they are there. Costing might also
be a factor in companies not wanting to put on a trade display.
Open Floor discussion in regards to the Sound off within the Auto Spec and it was suggested
that Auto Barn be contacted for their assistance. Alison to contact Shane from Auto Barn
Open Floor discussion about the entrants should have a wrist band or visible card to let the
public members know that they are an entrant and have displayed their vehicle.
A further public meeting will be held:

Also one of the key things they said on the night was "we haven't been to Summernats or whatever so we need your input". The show has been running for 3 years now. Go to some local shows. Got to out of town shows. Gather ideas and see how other events are run. Mingle with the community you're putting on an event for. Communicate and interact with other promoters.
I will agree that some excellent ideas have been put forward and put in to action, but there are some bad also. I've made my thoughts aware to them privately. Meetings are not for me.

I filmed for them for the entire weekend for a few free passes (so nothing really). To pay someone to do that you'd be looking at thousands of dollars. I didn't say "bugger that, it's too much effort". Same goes for everything I am involved with. QSS isn't too much effort. Videos or DVDs are not too much effort. Cairns Burnouts are not too much effort. Film for free at a lot of events, just like you do photos. I don't get any money out of it, but I enjoy it.
How much effort is it acknowledge someone?
Like I said it's not hard to say "Thanks for your comments".... whether they like comments or not I don't care that is their choice. I get comments that I don't like for things I do, but I respond to them. You can't just ignore people.

All you need to be there or make your comments know to Ian Allen Snr.
It is thoughts like you need a V8 to be listen to are wrong, one of the things all car people are trying to do is encourage the younger brigade to tell them what they want and be part of the feedback.
As for Matts comments on no recognition I am sure you were listen to, it may not come out in the minutes of the meeting though.
