I have been putting a lot of thaught into my gemini over the last few days and I am considering boring and stokeing the 253.

I know a 253 and 308 are the same block but being a noob when it comes to cars I don't know how far the engine can go if I stroke it. I have heard of 327 stroker kits but not sure if they are holden or chev.

I understand the motor will need a new crank and rods but what if anything needs to be done to the block. The motor is curently a virgin bore red 253 out of a HZ kingswood. Has any 1 on the forum done this? is it a pain in the butt to do?

What would be the expected price to pay for a crank?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

253 and 308 are different blocks,, and different internals,, 2 be honest u would just be beter off gettin a 308 and chucking a 388 stroker kit in it,, 253 r usually best for boat anchors,, lol, and yes,, strokin a 253 will cost about the same as stroking 308,, and it does envolve quite a bit of machine work to the block,, but the good thing id u can buy the whole internal kit for around $2500 now,, and its well worth it, just tell em u want low comp pistons and tell them ure chuckin a couple of hairdryers on it and they will adjust wat will be needed

253 is a 4.2lt and the 308 is the 5lt option.
I personally would go the 308 also, as the black 202 injected even goes harder IMO. 253's make a lot of noise but dont really get up and boogy like the 308 does. But if your restricted to the 253 because of the gemini's weight or whatever, just put on a set of vn heads (alloy) a medium size cam and a good carby/extractor setup- off the top of my head these can all be interchanged between the 253 & 308 for if/when you decide to upgrade to the 308.

Dont waste the money on a stroker kit as it will end up costing big bucks, and personally I think you may be a little dissapointed at the end of the day for sticking with the 253.

On a side note I do have a brand spanker 450 Holley for sale that will suit the 253 if your interested, its the pro street kind with no bowls and polished, unlike the ordinary yellow/gold colour. PM me if you like.

Cheers

the carby would be nice but I'd need 2 as I'm running 2x T-3/4 turbo's off the sides.

Hey sik lux I like your thinking of the 388, do ya know any 1 with an empty block? Pref cheap.

Try Kenny's Holden Spares
or Hinspeter Wreckers

For more info on working any old holden motor visit
www.oldholden.com

I would still definatly go the alloy heads as these flow heaps better than the old 308 heads even if they are ported and what not

I know bugger all on this subject but aren't the alloy heads more prone to warp?

Drools...

Kostecki CNC 9 Alloy
670hp Potential

The ultimate in drag racing and flow design, producing over 325cfm at 680 valve lift. Three port configuration available through using Yella Terra distributors. This head has ran 10.2 at 131 in a full body. Built by Kerrie Automotive.

Or give this a read if you like.

You can also pick up a set of L34 heads in the trading post, but I would def use them on a 308, have heard that they 'flow to much' for a 253, should be fine if your running 2 snails tho.- this is if you still decide to stick with the 2 fly's and a flea! :D

Yeah I know exactly how that feels atm 2. But they are hell nice. If you after the whole 308 kit and what not, you can pick up an entire 308 with running gear out of something from the wreckers. Give them a ring, the one in idalia always has cars for sale cheap as chips all because they have no RWC or 2 much rust. Just have a look at the engine running and do a leak down test.

I picked up my new EFI setup including engine & car for $350, took what I wanted, and sold the rest as parts. Made my money back and some.
I then stripped my engine down, bought a just parts mag, let my fingers do the walking and ended up having a quick engine for around $2000 including what the donor car cost me in the first place.

I did use the transmission that it came with, and this didnt last 2 long, but long enough to save up for my new shift kitted trimatic.

good luck finding a set of genuine L34's i have a set at home that i aint ever guna sell lol,, and anutha set on my lux,, u probly wont have heaps of luck finding a 308 out of a car,, but il keep an ear out,, 388TT will frigin haul arse in a gemini lol,, hold on to ya head lol,, u could probly find a 308 for around $500 complete that need a rebuild,, and yes heads are interchangable from 253 to 308 and visa, versa, although goin alloy head is a good idea, u will also need a new inlet manifold to suit ure heads,, so around $1000 just for heads manifold and gasket,, also runnin two hair dryers,, i would be running a holley 1150 dominator or similar,, or even vn v8 heads manifold and injection,, which u could just buy a vn ss for around $2000, there r many options to go for but i would certainly go 308 stroker

you guy's are dead set champions!

I'm gonna keep an eye out for an empty 308 block as every thing else will need to be replaced any way. Hell yeah 388 with hair dryers......any1 game to guess an ET. The car weighs 700Kg with motor atm, but I wanna put a 1/2 cage in at least. Front 1/2 that is.

the 253 is getting new rings and put together as a N/A this weekend so I can get some practice runs. I haven't had a RWD since my cruiser.......gonna be interesting.
