All nissan engines use that syntax,
First 2 letters (VQ, SR, CA, VG, RB etc)
2 numbers (20, 25, 30, 45, etc) capactiy
D = Dual overhead cam
E = EFI
T = Turbo
TT = Twin turbo
Toyota motors have names like 1JZ-GE which is the first series of the JZ series I guess, and 2JZ which is 2nd series, but you can't figure out much from just the names like Nissan which are easy to spot even if you don't know the engine.

the guys on the lextreme forums reckon they've sorted out how to get the 4.0L 1uz out to something like 6.5L. reckon it'll rev to 10k
