HELLO Q.S.S MEMBERS,
thought this TOPIC might CHEER some people up in regards to their ET's at EVENT4.
If you supply your vehicle weight & your MPH i can calculate your engines HP & also the theoretical ET your vehicle IS capable of running when SET UP CORRECTLY.
These figures are not ""EXACT"" HOWEVER they will be very close.
EG: NAT's SKYLINE weight (dont really know what it is) GUESSING it to be a little lighter than IAN's SKYLINE as NAT,s is 2 wheel drive.
GUESSTIMATED WEIGHT of 1250 kg, with a terminal speed of 129 MPH =
2755 LBS with term. speed 129 MPH = 460 HP (REMEMBER ONLY AN EXAMPLE)
""""CAN SOME ONE GIVE ME AN ACCURATE WEIGHT OF AN R33 GTSt"""
Having the correct weight which SHOULD be more than 1250 kg will net a HIGHER HP RATING.
USING GUESTIMATED WEIGHT of 1250 KG (2755 LBS) with a terminal speed of 129 MPH & 460 HP =
a theoretical ET (with perfect traction etc) of =
"" 10.31 SECONDS "".
USING IAN's SKYLINE as a more accurate example as he has posted his weight in another post,
1380 KG (3042 LBS) with a TERMINAL SPEED of 116.9 MPH =
375 HP,
So with perfect traction etc IAN's car has the ability to run =
"" 11.25 SECONDS ""
ANY ONE INTERESTED POST AWAY I WILL REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
REGARDS DAVE.

I'll have a go, as a lot of people say that my power is down compared to ET i do.
Are you using a calculator on the net, or Morroso slide or similar?

Dave, thats all good on paper and everything how ever ive been following the build up thread of ians skyline and i was down there on the night.. 2 questions for ya here

1. why did ians car run 2 almost identical times and mph (14.9 @ 98mph) than suddenly pick up 22mph and only 1.1 second? the car is 4wd right.. 4wd cars generaly run fast times with low mph prime example robs r32 gtr 13.0 at 102mph now ians car is suppose to have the exacty same running gear as a gtr just different engine if thats the case ians car is making more horsepower than robs gtr according to the mph (goin by the second run which you went by) so why didnt it actualy run faster and you cant use wheelspin as an excuse as the 4wd skylines are known for hooking up and goin regardless of little bits of wheel spin or not

so also with saying that regardless of bad driver or not it should still have run a lowto mid 12 second pass on its second run and lowto mid 13's on its first and second pass

2. 4wd skylines are known for running fast times with low mph right.. how come ians 'quickest' pass was the other way aroud.. ever thought that maybe he never actualy ran 116mph? there was alot of stuff ups on the night with mph due to bugs down the end of the track i believe it was? for instance there was a standard v6 commodore that ran a 15.5 at 116mph now.. your goin to tell me with this maths that the commodoor is a low 11 second car? sorry.. but i doubt it

nathans car weighs in at around 1450kg with driver

on another note.. in all the times ive been to the strip ive never seen a car pick up 22mph and lose it the next run unless they've braked just before finish line or backed off halfway down the track due to breaking something
best quote ive ever heard 'we dont work on those round engines here'

3200lb / 1450kg "with out driver" is a R33 GTS-T Skyline, R32s are Less in weight then a 33.

Nat's Car has only 430hp at the wheels, Ingham Dyno can verify that.

In saying this, I would be interested to see what Predicted ET Simons car would run. With 500+hp at the wheels should defiantly be a 10sec pass straight up.

375HP at th wheels ( which is way over the power ians turbo is rated at and without cams i would highly doubt his engine would make, turbo is rated at 450HP~ and doing all the maths equals a max of around 330HP at the wheels and in a 4wd would be less due to more drivetrain loss ) in a 1380KG car running 11.25? I would like to see that. Even though its 4wd i think thats almost impossible... And if the HP figure is at the crank then its definately impossible.

If this is the case Matt`s car should be doing 120+mph because he has more power due to the weight of his car.....

I dont really care what any car does, i just am not a fan of people saying something when they cant back anything up, You havent said anything like this ian and i apologize if you think im attacking your car, i wasnt. I understand how an ET can be calculated from trap speed and vehicle mass etc. but there are way way to many variables to be taken into account for it to beany real world significance.

There is a little virtual engine calculator tool that can do all of this calculating and work out a lot, but i find it a bit impossible, according to he calculator my car is capble of a 12.1 ET.....i have never seen another silvia do this time with the same power, even on slicks....

Not having a go at your skill and ideas on this one Dave, just i guess im a bit of a skeptic

and i guess thats why dave said it wasnt a exact prediction,, all the ones that ive done have said mine is capable of 14.7,, and i know it would be if all went well,, slipping clutch,, bad axle tramp and missing gears due to the clutch being flogged all made a huge impact,,, and noel from wat ive heard, ure car is quite quik,, so u may get close to the times that r predicted,,, maybe lol

At the end of the day as People learnt from event 4, it’s easy to sit behind a computer and calculate how fast your car will go, but reality is it doesn’t work like that.

Come on boys, let Dave have his thread in peace. The word 'potential" is the key, and i'm sure if they were set up for "racing" fully, most peoples times would be predicted pretty close, so let him have his say.
And unless you backed up your times on the weekend, there will be some doubting. Have a look at real competition drag racing, and to set records, you have to back it up.
I can run 112 mph every run, so if Ian wants to see if it really had a 116 mph in it, we could go to some private property and test it out :P

take my car for example its slow for the power it was making 309rwkw= 12.8 at 117.. all comes down to driver weight and traction.... i not the beast driver it weight 2 tonne and traction is a pretty bid prob

dion is right. these sort of calculators have been around for a long time, and they give an "indication" only. they are designed to give a calculation of what your car is "capable" of, not what it will run. the reason for this is due to the fact that many road cars are not set up for the strip in regards to tune, diff ratios, suspension set ups etc. If figures given are correct, they are pretty close. times were up and down all over the place at event 4. and they always will be. lets just get back out there and have some more fun!

hmm the main reason for my post is.. as everyone saw before event 4.. people predicting times off these calculations only to be let down which isnt a good feeling i imagine.. how ever piss all these calulations off run wat ya brung and hope brung enough

and ian for gods sake quit the excuses you still ran a 13.8 which isnt to bad for an old rb20 and for it beign your first time at the track

no offense matt but the hp yours is pushing i would have thought mph would have been more goin by a few figures of another silvia ive seen run with less power at that point in time

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO HAVING SOME FUN.
I made my post in regards to this topic to let people see what they ""MAY ACHIEVE "" if they WISH to go further with their car and drag racing as such.
SOME not all, should READ properly what i state.
ESTIMATION,NOT EXACT but CLOSE,WITH PERFECT TRACTION, NO DRIVER ERROR, ETC,ETC,ETC.
These calculations are done with software, then i cross reference them to the trusty old been around forever MOROSO SPEED CALCULATOR.
The figures i end up with are that close to each other the difference isnt worth mentioning.
For those who dont know, IF these type of software programs and slide rules are so inacurate, WHY DO THEY EXIST,WHY DO THEY GET USED BY MANY DRAG ENTHUSIESTS and RACE TEAMS to help them GUESSTIMATE WHAT THEY CAN DO.
As for your comment WAZZ regarding IAN's MPH.
How do i know any of the MPH figures i am given are real.
I DONT, I JUST TRUST PEOPLE,TAKE IT FOR GRANTED THAT THE FIGURES GIVEN ARE HONEST.
As for track issues re: ET's & MPH, who knows how inaccurate the equipment is.
I know for a fact EVERY car i have been involved with that has raced at TOWNSVILLE and then raced at either MACKAY or WILLOWBANK have run quicker ET's & MPH,than what thy did in TOWNSVILLE..
Both tracks are far better than Townsville traction wise and MAYBE there equipment is maintaned better and calibrated more often.
WHO KNOWS.
It seems that it doesnt matter who posts what, there is always someone out there who wants to shit can anything ANYONE has to say or offer.
These FORUMS are about technical issues etc RELATING TO CARS,ENGINES and the LIKE.
If you dont like what you read or wish to question whatever has been posted by WHOM EVER.
DO THIS DIPLIMATICALLY or DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.
IN M Y POSTS I QUITE OFTEN STATE "THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION".
ONCE AGAIN READ PROPERLY WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU.
IF YOU DONT BELIEVE OR DONT LIKE WHAT IS POSTED "LOOK AT SOMETHING ELSE".
To back up the software and slide rule accuracey a good example of this was one of my customers CAMAROS.
After completion we took it to TOWNSVILLE ran 11.25 @ 128 MPH, first pass off the trailor.
The car weighs a hefty 1650 KG.
3630 LBS.
The CAMARO showed a power output on the dyno of 560 at the wheels on NITROS, EXACT SAME COMBO WE RAN IT IN TOWNSVILLE.
The power output was out by 20 HP.
This could be due to the offset error in the software or slide rule or simply the whether on the day,TEMP. RELATIVE HUMIDITY ETC.
Later that year the car went to WILLOWBANK which after a torque convertor change netted a 10.4 @ 130.5 MPH.
REGARDS DAVE.

I own a Moroso speed calculator ive had it for years!! and i think it must be similiar to what you are using Dave!!! A few of you took this topic a bit too serious... Dave is just trying to show what he knows and this method of calculating ET that has been around for ages.. :-)
