Not certain but heard there will be grass events though. Should be a good family day and hopefully some decent "Show" cars & bikes will be on display. It will be interesting to see how it goes without burnouts!

Well we went down to the Burdekin and attended this event and although we had an enjoyable day the event itself was dissapointing to say the least. One would expect to have some issues being a different venue but the whole layout was poorely thought out. The area used was way too spread out and the only signage was on A4 sheets of paper stuck on walls. The Tug of War was good to watch but what about crowd safety? the crowd was left to stand anywhere they liked, no barricades or fencing not even a witches hat (there was one witches hat but they cut the bottom out for a megaphone as there was no PA) an insurance nightmare had anything gone wrong. After the tug of war they had the mud pit and at least that was partially fenced and they also had a small marque for some spectators.

The airconditioned main hall had 4 "elite" showcars in it and to be honest they should have combined all of the food and drink fascilities in there instead. The poor bastard serving from his ice cream van was stuck in the sun in the middle of nowhere and you were forced to stand there wilting while you waited to be served. There were a few grass events for those who ventured over to that area and eventually after that we had the trophy presentation at about 6.15pm.

This is where I feel the Burdekin Cruisers Car Club have a lot to answer for. there were quite a few indiscretions in the list of winners and I will list just a few. First of all I think it should go without saying that NO current members of the host club should be eligible to win ANY prizes or trophys. Burdekin Cruisers awarded at least three trophys/prizes to members and one of those was to a member that didn't even display his car until at least an hour after the 9am cut off for setting up displays, they tried to give him a top ute trophy as well but the announcer saw a problem when he realized the vehicle displayed was actually a HZ Premier sedan! Second obvious indiscretion (for want of a better word) was the trophy for top origional interior, now this was awarded to a fine chopped and tubbed F100 (actually my favourite at the show) but the problem here is the interior was actually out of a BA Ford I think and it seemed to have been covered in some sort of hide, now I cannot for the life of me see how the hell this could be an origional interior? Top "Standard Paint" on a sweet EH Ute was a bit over the top as well because I can't see how 'Standard" could apply to a 2pak metallic blue EH and not knocking the ute but it had huge blisters down the left pillar anyway! Question mark on the BSA winning out over the sweet 42 WLA Harley as well, are the judges blind, the BSA was not the best bike by a country mile. I don't want to write an essay so I'll finish off with "Top Ten" is top ten the top ten cars/bikes or whatever at the show? that is my interpretation and that being correct how can anyone get anywhere near top ten without even winning at least one trophy beforehand? Whilst the obvious ones were Egansies's Bel Air, the F100 the 2 Door Monaro and a couple of others there were some glaring inconsistancies. The beforementioned Burdekin Cruisers members HZ Premier Sedan/Ute took one home and at least one non trophy winner in a black LJ 4 door, by this time people sitting near us were pretty well shell shocked and we all left wondering what just happend! Over to someone in the Cruisers to "Please Explain"

I thought not a bad place for a car show. A burnout pad would of made it better. I was only there 3 hours which was plenty long enough. Didnt see the dyno working that was dissapointing.

Im glad they had the 4x4 pit and tug a war some thing different for a car show.

'Old Sta' There seams to be a pattern emerging at many car shows in the north along these exact same lines with very questionable judges rulings, and like as you said it's not sour grapes or anything close as the decisions are smack in the face wrong, why and how this comes about can only be explained by those involved in the decision process, but would be interesting to hear some explanation. Hopefully it changes before this show season.

i agree that the show was spread out way to much but i still had a ball we took dus12's patrol down and another patrol wagon which won hard luck award as he broke his rear diff in the tug of war
but i still think it was a good day will be better with a burnout pad and a few bugs ironed out which were half expected from being in a new facility
at least there is shade at the show grounds unlike the speedway

Oldsta.
Yes I'm sure there are many out there who agree with you...INCLUDING me...yes I own the Black LJ 4door you mentioned and I was at a wonder also how this came about.

I was also thinking how can you be one of the Top ten cars there but not recieve a trophy for another catagory, but then I was NOT one of the judges and dont know how there judging was being run.

I am pleased at winning the Top Ten plate and am proud of it knowing that as my LJ was worthy it and can now add it to her other trophies (including another Top ten Plate) from others she has won at recent shows.

WE stayed about for a few extra minutes and mentioned this and some of the other judging problems that obviously stood out to all and that you have bought up to a Burdekin Member, and were listened to with thanks.

Every Car show has its bugs that need to be worked out so apart from these obvious problem.

We had an enjoyable day and would like to thank the Burdekin Cruisers for all of their effort and hospitality and look forward to supporting next years event
