Unfortunately the May 10th SUPER SUNDAY CAIRNS drift meet has be canceled. There are problems with the track surface with all the rain over the last few months and the track has only just recently been not submerged. While it was not our decision to cancel it, myself as a supporter and RACELINE as the promoter both agree that it is the right decision until the track is dry and attended to so further damage is not created.

I know this will upset many people but rest assured there will be more drifting in Cairns in 2009. It's not worth destroying the track over. There needs to be some repairs and sunshine (which we are finally seeing!) down at the track.

If you can offer assistance with track repairs or have any questions feel free to contact me.

Probably needs a member who works at Council Mcleod st depot to sneak in some hotmix and a roller .cough cough

the track is much like my 86, wont be ready in time lol,
If your on the job of fixing it, just add another couple of foot width around the outside of the corners

That would be a very expensive exercise. Your car is one of the smallest so you got no excuse if the bigger cars wheel it around there

I am thinking perhaps a "fund raiser" event to get put some money towards fixing problems. Also want to run a fund raiser for the burnouts at some stage.

As usual you've always got something positive to say tmat.

We are working towards more events but unless you're going to just fork out money for us to help repair/maintain the track it won't happen over night.

Matt, what's the deal with that pro show thing Ian was on about end of june sometime. Is that just for the pro guys or is that an event for us gumbys to.

that would rock!!, are you planning a fundraiser to go towards the track or something, cause if you are i will help the best way I can. Im sure the peeps who own/run the track would be happy to get these events rolling again considering all the positives from the last one.

No one? I represent STADIUM DRIFT in Cairns. I started the drift in Cairns. I liase with the Speedway about drifting. If anyone knows it's me... and if you read the original post I said it will happen in 2009.... so.......

Instead of being negative put some effort in to pushing and supporting events. These things only happen with support of the public.

i wasnt necessarily being negative but no one really does have a clue if u were the only one that knows then tech u are the only one i told people down here about it and they were all wtf theres a drift comp so before u start accusing me of not supporting the event i suggest u get your facts straight dude

I don't think its exactly something you can put a specific date on tmat... it depends on a lot of variables, which includes funding and helpers, so no need to be a smartass about it.

yer and even if the funding and fixing of the track works out, we do live in fnq, it could rain, so nothin is 100%, so sit back and be a nancy all u like tmat, but to the people who are getting off there arse to support this, hats off to ya, cant wait to see this get bigger.

It hasn't been happening for years, so obviously all of Townsville doesn't know. We will work on that once there are regular meetings, but there hasn't been yet.
