I believe Paul prefers the turbos on his Monaro. I think he has the GenTT turbos. It's a pretty cool thing.

Turbos are great because you're using waste energy to create more power but also get extremely hot extremely quick when under constant load creating a lot of under bonnet heat. Not usually a big problem. Depends on application I guess and set up.

FI is great on the LS series engines, even with 10:1+ comp.
As Brinks says "Application specific for sure"
What do you want to use the car for?

The APS looks like quality with a capital "Q".

Drive in/drive away Horsepower Factory $14 odd grand for the full APS kit - http://www.airpowersystems.com/ls1/us_gto.htm

I agree with choosing the right thing for your application.....

Please feel free to add to/argue these....

Centrifugal
Pro's-
Easy to install, maintain close to stock under bonnet temps, simply change your boost with a pulley, keep your full existing exhaust system (if suitable obviously), some come with self contained oil system (no need to tap into feed or sump for return)
Con's-
Takes power to drive, put's load on the crank snout, not easily hidden from view with the bonnet up, lack of flexibility in mounting positions (ie. inline with the crank pulley obviously)

Turbo's
Pro's-
Easy boost control, flexible mounting options (can be hidden from view ala APS kit), use "free" pressure and heat energy to make boost,
Con's-
Retain underbonnet heat (in most cases), modifications to exhaust system needed, have no self contained oil system (unless custom made),

Anything else?

SVS quoted a mate about 20ish grand all up for the APS kit and a few other goodies, pretty sure that came with installation as well.

so pretty good for the numbers aimed for.

People don't shop around...? huh.gif

For a street car in your case, you cant go past a turbocharger... single or twin. Very smooth. Punch above their weight. And often tend to be quicker then their belt driven counter parts. Plus they can be made to be VERY unassuming.

Not a big fan of centrifugals to be honest. I figure if your going to supercharge it, do it properly... Big displacement whipple! Can't beat that sound. But they're "challenging" to drive given their power delivery. LOL! Instantaneous torque!

Just my 2cents...

i have been talking with a very reputable engine builder down south about my motor and he is recommending a large single turbo.

in the end u need to know what power u are chasing and how drivable u want it if it is still going to b a streeter....

if u want something punchy as but still has a top end pull ask leigh to take u for a burn in "the kid"..
it has the full aps kit and it gets up and boogies pretty hardcore

in saying that i seen a white ve maloo a little while ago while working with a full harrop blower setup uses the whipple blower and a full zorst and was making huge power on the 6 litre....

but yeah... depends what kinda power and torque curve u want and if u want instant power or something that ramps up to the given power u want......

I don't like being told what to do, and when some aluminium cased box of gears and friction plates tells me that it's time to change up, I really get pissed off. I will decide when it's time to change gears and sometimes I'm right. So the old smarty-pants automatic transmission isn't my best friend

I've got a big single turbo on my ute and am very happy with the results, it is perfect for on road use and has decent manners but once you hit 3000rpm it really comes into its own. Also good to see some realistic prices being put out there for the turbo kits because to get quality with the outcomes your after is not cheap!!

I saw an LS2 with a Centrifugal Supercharger feeding a Positive Displacement Supercharger. Good for a lazy 1000HP. laugh.gif
