If you wanna keep it legal you can do what a bloke i used to work with has done with almost the identical model of hilux.

He put a carby 13B mild port in it with a few other tweaks and it was a weapon, light and quick

Yep, one of the best things you can do is sit back and say "hell yes, I just farkin did that",, and by the sounds of your budget woes this could be a very good learning option. I know alot of people out there just take the car to someone to get stuff done, but when you really cant farkin afford it (like me) you do some research (maybe mini truck forums??) and attempt it all yourself. Simple budget mods are the key in your circumstance but do them right the first time,, now get off the computer and get stuck in wink.gif
CAUTION!!!! Learner Drifter.

Ok mate enough. This is about his Hilux and mods for it not our opinions on what kind of car is better. So we will leave it that okay.

What Can I say lol
I'm young and stupid.
And having a car that is unique has been a dream of mine.
Skylines and supras are nice but they are just too common these days.

but yeah each for there own

well done for being original. you've already got something most people don't with that!

any motor can be modded to improve power and any car can be modded to improve handling and looks.
now, be like everyone else and throw free flow filter/cold air intake, extractors.
change your diff ratio (and get your speedo calibrated if you do). you can get a quicker launch if you're willing to sacrafice top speed (and some fuel economy)

lots of things can be done.

if its a carby engine replace the old carby with a holly carby on it put a better diff in proffered is a limited slip diff rebuild engine put new compression rings etc my 2 ltr 3y engine in my 85 hilux goes like a bat out of hell since i put a holly carby in it n loves to let the tires rip =D but be careful of diff hop if you burning out you will blow your diff/gearbox if you don't strap the diff down it really depends on what you really want to do with your "lux"

4" blocks, remove bumpstops front and rear. wind down torsions. This will bring it down farking low for about $90 if you do it yourself. Buy rims. Replace 2wd guards with 4wd ones. Toyota surf dront end all chrome. Shave up the tray an doors. Thats what i did with my old hilux.

I would do an air bag suspension conversion that way there would be no heat from the cops in cairns they are really strict on lowered vehicles

Apart from the fact that they will de register your car for using airbags.

Where do you guys get your info/stories from?

No reason airbags can't be made legal..

Straight from the QLD Transport modification hand book....

Quote

Lowering or raising of vehicles
The road clearance of a fully laden vehicle must not be
less than 100mm measured at any part of the vehicle
other than the wheel rim or brake backing plates.
(This does not apply where a lesser clearance has been
specified by the manufacturer.)

When lowering or raising a vehicle body (front or rear),
the following additional restrictions are based on the
manufacturer's dimensions for the standard unmodified
vehicle while unladen:

• The ride height measured between the rubber bump
stop and the corresponding metal stop may be reduced
by no more than one third.

• The rebound travel measured between the rubber
rebound stop and the corresponding metal stop
(or the extension of the shock absorber for vehicles
without a rebound stop) may be reduced by no
more than one third.

• Coil springs are to remain in locating seats on full
suspension droop without forcibly being removed.

In addition, the normal relationship between the front
and rear suspension heights must not be unduly affected.

Replacement springs (shorter or taller) must have the
same or greater load capacity as the original springs.

Suspension coil springs must not be shortened by cutting
or heating. Leaf spring suspensions must not be raised
by the use of extended shackles, adjustable metal plates
or by placing the leaf springs to the opposite side of the
axle. If lowering blocks are used, they must be either
steel or aluminium.

Airbag or air pressurised shock absorber helper springs
may be fitted in addition to the original suspension.

However, replacing some or all of the suspension system
with an air or hydraulic suspension requires specific
approval.

You need a mod plate.. Thats all.... (And to comply with the rules)

Don't beleive me? Go have a read here : http://www.tmr.qld.g...ifications.aspx

Page 5 of the modifications guide.

They CAN & WILL Defect you if you have illegal suspension & chasis modifications, which is what a lot of people do when they install straight bags without getting the proper approvals & doing the job properly. But if you are willing to work with an approved engineer there is no reason that pure airbags could not be made legal..

The amount of bullcrap getting about reguarding modifications not being possible, not legal, or whatever is just amazing.. Do people even bother to read the modification guidelines? or even asking the guys who engineer & approve this stuff?

Some more light reading if your actually serious about doing airbags: http://www.tmr.qld.g...difications.pdf
