Looking at getting 17"'s for my Corolla.
Now it comes with stock 13"s but i'm told that aparently i can only go max 15"s?

Now... WTF? I am seeing small little 4 cylinders with 17"s... A mate even bought a piece of shit excel that had huge wheels.

Is there a set rule? or is there some loop hole that keeps my out of trouble with the boys in blue?

Your input is greatly appreciated

As long as the OVERALL diameter of the wheel + tyre doesnt exceed +15mm or -26mm of the stock diameter of wheel + tyre.

The 2 inch rule is some made up bullshit.

Who cares. Police up here dont enforce it very hard anymore. i think you just need the tire placard for it and your set.

dunno how to quote ... but yeh the 2 inch plus original wheel size was actually what you can run without compromising your vehicles original suspension design....(flame me if I'm wrong)........

yeah that used to be the rule some years ago, still current in some states also.

but yes the current regs specify any whell diamater as long as the tyre doesn't exceed +-14mm.

QUOTE
The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size
but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by
more than +15mm or -26mm.
These limits have been set for a number of reasons.
Varying the overall diameter of tyres affects ground
clearance, centre of gravity, brake effectiveness, steering
geometry, performance and speedometer accuracy.

lol you can get decent skinny 17" tyres for a not to bad price if you're willing to look around. I always cringe seeing 20+" rims a decent tyre on them would be a weeks pay.
