from my observation of what CAI's seem to have worked best on them it'd have to be the big open mouth that goes straight over the top of the radiator that has the 2 long skinny filters in it...

Mate if you can get your hands on one (quite difficult to find) a G&D Performance OTRCAI. But most aluminium OTRCAI's are good.

Stay away from SS Reduction... For the LOVE OF GOD! A lot of backed up info on that! You can ask many of the big LS tuners around the country about that.
OTR and tune is the goods, and the most effective CAI for power on a motor that hasn't had any work. However as stated above, depends what you want to achieve... A simple K&N filter in the standard airbox and a Monaro CAI is one of the best intakes you can put on these cars, and could cost you under a $100! But it comes back to what you want to do in the future. No use spending 1-1.5k on an intake and tune for example, only to bin those to make way for Forced induction - turbo or superchargers.
Where abouts are you mate?

I like the otr types and is what we fit to most of the cars we tune.
One in particular that works is the Extreme otrcai.. made from fibreglass and top quality (not like some of those dodgy e bay ones. We also stock the CHE alloy ones that work very well.
Typically see good gains over other types with either of these 2. We did back to back comparision with a big mouth and an extreme... the extreme made 8rwkw more before any fine tuning.

my brother in law has an 'air hammer' system on his along with extractors, full 2 1/2 inch exhaust. he has an edit done and they spent about 40 minutes on the dyno and got an extra 40 hp out of it. final figure was 485hp at the treads
