I no quite a few 4 cylinders that have around the 200kw mark and have torque figures up around 800nm so you cant tell me that 800nm is not a lot of torque coming out of a 2ltr engine.. Torque does not define a tuff car and if you think it does WELL!! no more needs to be said

A car must have torque in order to be respectable. silvias/200sx/180's/wrx's/evo's etc are all always going to have the same problem of never being able to have as much torque as a larger capacity motor. Larger capacity motors have the problem of making the torque but lacking the HP - unless they get forced induction - but then you have the problem of the weight as these big displacement engines add a lot to the front of the car and to make the car handle more weight needs to be put into the rear of the car because ideally you want an even split of weight distribution.

The ideal 'tough' car would be a mid size engine with forced induction - such as a porsche GT2... even the GTR's got to be OK as they progressed and made something that was reliable. (R34)

Japanese cars and the old school v8's are NOT prestige, performance or racing oriented and the only real purpose they serve is looking good.

There are no shortcuts if you want a performance car you have to spend the money.

Whether you're low tech or high tech, there aren't any real tough cars in QSS... you all should know this.

The demographic of a person who would be able to afford a truly 'tough' car would not be talking to the younger child audience of QSS.

No tough cars, PROTDs car is not tough? Chris with the 11sec white XF is not tough? Tanksys XY is not tough? What about this possible 10sec GT-R that recently signed up? Nat with the 11sec R33? All these cars to me are what I would call tough. V8 or not, they are tough in their own right.

I don't think anyone here thinks they drive a ferrari or lamborghini either, and at the end of the day these cars don't make REAL impressive figures for what they are worth so why bring up the torque figures they make?

You also bag out his car because it's 14 years old, how about something like an XY GTHO? That must be really crap being around 30 years old! The majority of the car enthusiasts community is made up from people who own older cars, being import, v8 or whatever so age really has no relevance. And while we are talking about lamborghinis and ferraris, how many people who own one do you think a REALLY car enthusiasts and don't just own one because they are rich? hm

for me a tough car is all about the presence on the road. It rumbles past, fills up the whole lane, scares small children, all that kinda thing! lol

engine note is heaps of it for me, cant beat the sound of a big V8, i am quite a fan of the holen 308, even if its not got that much horsepower. The sound of a straight 6 too i like. Its when the have a bit of a rumble at 2000 rpm. cruising speeds.

i wont bother posting pics, but looking round my room on the wall there is a Ford galaxy (SM Giveaway car ) couple of old school flacons, valiant charger, HT holden. lol. thats tough for me!

Oh an noel, i know you said that turbp 4s make 300hp easily, but take the turbo off. what do they make then? (and that is a serious question too lol) Surely it would be no where near that. An NA v8 might only make 400hp (some up to 750 that i know of), but whack a turbo on, and then the have the same bolt on mods, the V8 will have more power and bucketloads more torque.

Yeah, i own a modded v8 with a max of 400hp at the "flywheel" and don't think its a joke or slow. A cruisy high 11 second 1/4 mile in a heavy "street" car. Most turboed cars i have raced need 100 more hp and 300kg less weight to come close, beacuse i have torque. And WAY more than a piddly 1000 nm on the chassis dyno thats for sure .
