The only way they could possibly police this is by pulling people over after they have dropped people off at a formal. Even then, you could just say that you dropped your brother off (I believe the law allows direct relatives to be dropped off), or there was no payment made. They could pull people over on the way to the formal, but then you could just say that your not going to a formal ("no officer, this is how the boy and girl in the back seat normally dress") and that there was still no payment made.

Has anybody been done for this yet?

The guys going to think here's another kid using a fake ID or here's McLovin, the 25 year old Hawaiian organ donor. So what's it going to be? I am McLovin. No your not. No one's McLovin, McLovin's never existed because that's a made up, dumb, f**king fairy tale name you f**k

maybe the limo drivers should start lobbying the government for cheaper licences instead of getting on the bandwagon for this ridiculous "law". As stated, it would be impossible to prove that you've received payment for doing a formal drop off unless the dinks in the back seat admitted it.

as I understand it, if no money changes hands, its simply a case of dropping a mate from one place to another? if so, no proof equals no fine.

Last year I escorted a young mate to his formal out here in the sticks. I rode a Buell XB12R, two other bikes with me, and he followed us in formation on a BMX with pitted, rusted chrome and chopped handlebars wearing a motorcycle helmet. Those of us on real bikes were all leathered up, matte black helmets with irridium visors.

We then had another guy hiding, dressed as a valet, who had the balls to walk in front of the crowd and secure the BMX with a very large chain to a post outside the hall.

That was cool (videoed it from a roof of an opposite building.) So if anyone wants to do that instead, feel free to PM me lol.

Wish I'd went to my own formal like that instead of wandering in on my foot falcon listening to a discman.

My father dropped me off to my formal in my shitty Corolla.. No money changed hands... We are close family.. However i think the cops would have been a little more distracted by the fact i was in the boot of the car and jumped out from there.....

if someone asks me id do it just to show of my car anyways
it would be a real asshole to fine you or even ask you if it was family or close friend in the car when you drop them of
i know when i got my mate to drop of a friends kids in his mustang there wasnt even a question asked the kids were just happy to be going in a cool car end of story:unsure:

Its only the people that think a few cars here and there are putting them out of work
maybe they should look at the cost they are charging then maybe all could afford it:rtfm:

This is a very hard law to police, the cop's would catch more people J walking than using there car for a taxi

14dte it would seem you drive a limo for a living? if you do then I understand how you feel but

I honestly cant see how this subject can be policed fairly especially if someone does it once in a blue moon for a carton of piss + fuel

but for people who do it to try and make a living then that's a different story, throw the book at them.

I think this thread was started not to take your business away but to help out people who otherwise would have just got

there old's to drop them off or something like that, not everyone can afford a limo when people will do it for free

I guess there's lot's of money to be made at the end of year formals for a limo company.

Yes I did own and operate a limo business. I can tell you that all limo's are normally booked for School Formals so the push on this law did not come from the Limo owners. The information I past on to this forum was intended to assist anyone who wanted to do formals, the DOT had advised us that it was there intention to attend Formal arrivails and police the law.

The limo owners in no way asked for this to happen. I know I have been asked several times to take people to there formal in my cars and would have done it if they were available at the time. I have run a business that was inspected by the DOT from Townsville following a complaint from a large transport operator in Cairns about how we were operating. After a full inspection the inspectors agreed that we were running legally, as we had found a way around the rules and had writen proof from the head of the DOT in Brisbane. This is now the reason for the new SP plates, but the loop hole is still there.

I will again point out it was only my intention to advise everyone on this forum of the intention of the DOT to police the law, better to make an informed decision than complain if stopped by the DOT.

This is a very important day for a lot of people, and I for a fact know how hard it is to pay for everything needed on that day let alone pay for a ride, That is why i always lend my car out at formals for free, normally a friend drives them since im always at work.
So I say unlucky to those who charge people except those that do it for a living, and by all means cops should book those who charge.

SPL's are restricted to cars more than 30 years old and retired stretch luxury vehicles like our '82 and '86 Mercedes Benz Limo's Basically if you want to get paid to do it, you need to be licensed. If you only do formals for friends and don't get paid then transport don't care. So most of the cars in this post don't even qualify for the license.

If anyone wants to know more, or want help becoming an SPL, let me know or have a look at our site at www.essencelimousines.com.au.

At the end of the day, if you are just doing it for a friend we really don't care, it's when people try to turn it into a business without going through what we have to that gets us pissed off.
