Hi all
I've been talking to the Show Society of Mackay about putting in a full time burnout pad to be used once a month, now I'm sure there's alot of motor enthusiast out there that would use this.

Please leave your comments below if we should or shouldn't have somewhere for us to play and the cops to leave us alone.

Also it would be completely separate from the road that we used for SMOKEN MACKAY This one will be over the back of the mound towards the Nebo Rd lights approximately 50mx50m in size with a 15mx5m entrance to both sides. (similar to Archerfield)

Please help us get this off the ground and keep the Mackay Showgrounds here in the city heart, the more events the longer it stays

Cheers

Sounds like a great idea Mick. I would suggest another location but. I think the Mackay Showgrounds may be a little close to both the highway and residential etc. considering the once a month plan. The last thing you need is for locals to put in objections or worse still spending thousands and then getting moved on at a later date. Try and find somewhere a little less intrusive and I'm sure it will get more support (from both sides)

Good Luck!

All the best for it Mick, I know me and tim would both be big supporters of it and once again bring down whatever we can get our hands on and do a skid.

Leppy,
I got to the bottom of it all good. My new combo that's a hard 1 $2000 gets my stroker fixed 649hp or $1500 gets me a 460 bbf C6 and all the gear I need to fit it in the XD/XF ute but it needs a full rebuild so there's another $2-5000 but its a start for the 8/71 551ci monster I want to build. $$'s is the big thing I'm still paying for Smoken Mackay but all good.

Oldsta,
I have thought of another location but the council holds all the cards with that but with the showgrounds its privately owned. We had 1 complaint from Smoken Mackay and it came from the cemetery end of Shakespeare st at 8:30pm the monster trucks had no complaints the Concert that was held there a few years back had 1 complaint it was at 12am so the noise isn't an issue as far as the smoke goes hahaha we had the fireies turn up there at 7pm but as soon as they saw what was going on they left.
You will find if this goes ahead the police will be behind it just as they are everywhere else it gets it off the street and into a controlled environment.

WE as a motor enthusiast community need to band together and get this off the ground every weekend in Victoria, NSW, or South Australia you can find a burnout comp on.

WHY is it so hard here in QLD????

Because of all the fighting, bickering, and BULLSHIT between everyone no one wants to run these events.

Duncs, cheers mate see you there.

I don't think it's different anywhere mate. I have people complain that $5 is too much. Just gotta put up with it and keep doin it or give it up. Always going to get people that expect everything for nothing and whinge about stupid crap.

You'll find a small group of dedicated helpers. Look at them and get it rolling and you'll be sweet.

I'm sure i could find a few people to help you out with it Mick, i for one am keen as custard to see a pad get built and used and i'm sure there's a lot of others in mackay that would love to have a place to legally drop a skid.

Anything that's had regular noise at the showgrounds has been stomped out pretty quick smart. One off events aren't much of a problem.

The speedway tried to run regular burnout comps, bit wasn't supported either.

Also most places where burnout comps are popular also don't have a drag strip. But that's another discussion all together.

Overall PB (hopefully in the 9's soon) 360ci Charger 11.18 at 121mph
265 Hemi Turbo Charger PB 11.85 at 112mph
Tripled 265 Centura PB 13.13 at 102mph
Got Centura 12's planned. At a dead end for now.

Good work yogi, love the negative support mate keep it up.

The burnout pad at the speedway is tiny, yeah you could pull a donut on it but there's no room to be creative and wouldn't make for a very good competition.

And also it's not like people have to make a decision whether or not to do the burnout comp or drags, i mean more than half of the cars at smoken mackay have been down palmyra more than once.

Once it gets off the ground i could see this burnout pad being quite successful, and if Mick is in negotiations with the showgrounds to build it do you not think that the showgrounds wouldn't have thought of the noise?

I'm just saying the show grounds probably isn't the best place for it.

And the fact the the show socioty would have thought of the noise, I dunno about that one. They ran speedway there for a little while, but ended up shutting up shop. Always seemed to be stuff in the media about the noise. Maybe a cerfew would be put in place.

If it gets built there I'll go support. I'd go check it out if it was anywhere nearby...

Look at forcing cars to run mufflers. Other events do..... while it does suck ass it's better to have mufflers and an event than no event at all.

There is already a curfew of 9:30pm and yes Matt they would have to run mufflers if it becomes a regular once a month event but at this stage the Smoken Mackay is still aloud no mufflers as this is a yearly event I'm going to the police next week to see if they can help in any way no harm in trying.

As far as all the negative feedback coming in I don't have a problem with it, we all have something to say and I need as much feedback as possible to get this thing happening, its harder that you think to organize this sort of thing.

the noise is not the issue, it's the smoke, hence the reason the EPA stomped on the cairns showground deal.. I'm unsure were the mackay grounds are, but i assume in the middle of town as most showgrounds are.. I'd make a phone call to Damian Higgins (i think that's his last name) he organized the cairns and townsville showgrounds burnout comps ( which both got shutdown by the epa) and speak to him about the hurdles he had, who knows maybe his input may help you jump the EPA hurdles he could not all those years ago..

once again good luck

Looks like not many people want to back this kind of thing in Mackay the police are against it they seem to think its promoting hoons, the council are in the air with it and the general public just don't seem to care, so its looking like its just gona be the once a year thing.

Just waiting for the show society to come back from holidays and I can secure the date either Saturday 24th or 31st of July see what we can get.

There will be no car show just a display as there was little interest in last year, so we are going with the burnouts, a go-2-whoa, and a motokana, also a piss tent, stage, live band, V.I.P area and maybe a wet t-shirt comp, and a win a ride comp in the feature car.

Any feedback for this years outline please leave here.

Mick,

24th of July is a good date for me as it's my weekend off. Have travelled to Brisvegas for the last 2 years for powercruise and have had a blast and placed top 10 both times. Would love to have something local so I don't have to travel so far to chuck a decent skid!!! Good on you for trying but it's a hard slog mate. Been there done that and with little support as well. Sorry I haven't made it over in the past but work sucks!!

Jas.

We'll be having the NQ PRO Burnouts on again this year on July 10th.... this year we have over $5,000 in cash up for grabs..... just something to keep in mind. I don't know if it'll have much effect being a long way away but just putting it out there.

OK an update sorry its been awhile.

Now that the showgrounds are going threw the ringer with the government its not going to happen there any more, so Ive been throwing a few ideas round does any one out there have or know of someone who has 3-4 acres of flat land in/round Mackay that we can lease off them for the construction of a burnout pad and a dirt drift/motokana track?

I can get the backing of local businesses to help out with the cost of construction for the pad, Ive got 3 tyre companies that will donate tyres for the barriers all we need is the land and you the Mackay public.

Ive spoken to the council and have all the relevant paperwork to fill out, Ive also spoken to a couple of cops they will support it by coming along to the events.

If it was held every 2nd Friday night with a big Saturday/night comp once every 2 months would that be to much or not enough?

Also how much would you pay to spectate and/or skid? I want to make it affordable for all but still be able to have some prize money and able to cover costs.

I was thinking $20 to skid $10 to spectate for Friday nights then on Saturdays $30 or $40 skid and $20 spectate.

The prize money would be calculated between how many entrants we have on the night but no less than $100 1st, $75 2nd, $50 3rd

Please put your thoughts here I'm open to anything at the moment

Cheers BIG Mick
