So I've arrived at the conclusion that my compressor clutch is stuffed... Engages most of the time but develops a nasty repetitive clunk.

ie: Doonkadoonkadoonkadoonka yeah you get the picture.

So what I need to know is exactly which part (from the EPC below) needs to be replaced?

http://www.toyodiy.c...PVZ_8719.5.html

I'm thinking either 88403 or 88302, but I'm not entirely sure.
The whole assembly is available as a kit, (88410) but it costs a bloody fortune...

If somebody could clue me in, I'd be very appreciative :)

Cheers

Jarad

is the parts list genuine or aftermarket? to be honest, id be doing the whole thing as an assembly to avoid missing something out.

i would imagine that the rotor, stator and the hub would all have to be replaced as well as washers and the like.

My car makes the grinding noise, i just ignore it :D

then i would be saying that all 3 parts need to be replaced, the rotor, the stator and the hub. whats the price of the entire clutch unit?

The aircon place opposite Cairns Central replaced the condensor and some other stuff for $800 and took 3 days.
1 day to remove old, 1 day waiting for postage, and 1 day fitting it all back.

Genuine Toyota, ex Japan, trade price through a mate who works at SciFleet in Brissy. Pacific practically spit on you when you say the word 'import'. Like they should care, I'm still buying parts off them ffs regardless of where the thing was sold originally. I even find my own part numbers first... Ah well, my money goes somewhere else.

I could *probably* use a clutch off something locally delivered.... Knowing Toyota it will be the same, but the thing Toyota likes to do is use exactly the same part on different vehicles, under a different part number. Oh and their system won't allow them to cross-reference, as that would make life easier (and cheaper) and we can't have that.

Have you tried NQ Auto parts in Anderson street, as they are associated with Toyota and source from overseas too.
I think they are called Autoparts Aust or similar now.

try ashdowns....check the nut on the clutch is tight to. had a little mazda do the same thing because the clutch had come loose and there was to much gap to pull the clutch in.

1JZs and 2JZ compressors shit themselves all the time.

i had to replace one on a mates JZX83 when i did the conversion. its now shit itself again, 2 years later.

there are a few different variants of the 1JZ compressor. you can however change over the pulley assembly and also the compressor manifold to suit your lines.

they need to be immaculate inside if your going to put a 2nd hand one in. any particulates will see it fail in no time.

further to this story, ive redone the entire system in my celsior (similar setup and vintage). the last compressor come to a grinding halt (literally) so it sent metal particulates through the entire system.

the only way to ensure it will last when you recommission it is to remove every single AC component in the car and flush it with compressed air and shellite. i would also recommend replacing the expansion valve. the condensor and evap will also need a good clean externally for air flow reasons.

the compressor needs to be drained of oil and topped up with something like PAG (castrol oil).

in my case with the celsior, a genuine compressor wasnt an option at $700 trade. some places can rebuild them but i would start with something better if your going to take that route. yours has prob had irreversible damage.

anyway there is my thoughts
