Well the day at the dyno went well, made close on 20 pulls all up, run the thing in on AVGAS, then switch to BP ULTIMATE. Made a few adjustments to the oil pressure, & vac poppet, changed oil from run-in to TORCO 20/50, then messed around with the cam timing.
Once again Jess @ BIGS got the carbs spot on, brake specifics were beautiful right out of the box, even though the correction was about 7% for most of the day
Anyway I wont say the exact HP/FTLB until I load the dyno sheet :buba:

But there are 3 of you guys very close

HINT : we have made 780hp with 358cfm on a previous build with a single carb

You may have confused some here> Similar combo has made 780hp, yet you are shooting for 680HP? Would that be called a fail by making near 100 more HP than the cust wanted Posted Image

You are right, some people may have been confused, I posted a HINT, but no one asked any questions, remember we were talking about head flow & HP potential, I think FAT64 made mention of needing 400 cfm to make over 800, my response was to show that 358cfm potential in theory is less then 780HP & another engine made more HP then the potential peak head flow.

Dion, If by FAIL, you mean, I failed my customer, then I guess you are right again....just something Im learning to live with. :D
Hopefully some will find this thread interesting, I have a few good projects on the run at the moment I can post combos & dyno results if anyone wants to see.

FWIW by similar I was talking about cubes, & head flow & port volume , but that engine had single carb, wet sump, 13:1 completely different ring pack & larger camshaft

ciao

Did you try a pair of 950 on it when it was on the dyno, also what timming and how far did you lean on it.
I cant see why you couldnt push it past the 800hp mark if you wanted to.I believe the 950s prob would have given you more top hp but you were prob chasing more air speed correct me if im wrong.
Also did you give it a very safe tune.Or did barbs give it a very safe tune, which i imagen you did play it safe for the customer.
And just and other question, if it was your engine in your CAR what HP do you think you could have got out of that engine with the 950s or a domi

This thing made MASSIVE power on pump gas..... regardless of the restrictions such as camshaft, carbs and compression to run on PULP and the fact it was never built for outright horsepower, alot of people would have no chance of building an engine this size and making that much power....

Ders leaned on it pretty good, my main concern for me was the run-in.... on this type of deal the rings need to be seated immediately, so there was no messing around, get a little temp in it & pull it straight up a few times without any crankcase vacuum, then onto the spark lead....which I must admit it was surprising to see it wanted mid 30's for a 15° valve angle.....from there onto the jet...... it was humid so went up a little to see if would respond but it wanted the jetting that the carb came with 78 & nice safe BSFC
Spent a bit of time pulling from the lower rpm range, wasnt really interested in peak power, was really happy that it made 610+ ft/lbs & had good area under the curve.
In my opinion you cant really rely on the dyno tune too much as it always changes alot once its in the car or boat in this case but its a good safe base line. So we will see wot the LM 2 spits out at us in the next cuple weeks.

On the carbs, I guess it would have been nice to see but it always comes at a cost & the bigger carb usually trades off some bottom end, so it was kinda pointless, it may get away with some 950's but a true test would be some 850 or a pair of 1000's. Im certain with some good fuel more pan vac & lighter oil & maybe retard the cam some it would have squeezed a little more out of it.

Dont know if I mention it but it made a flys dick more power on BP98 then AVGAS but it did get a little hotter in the pipe too.

FWIW I have a program which we built the pipes from & it said that engine would make 825 in a perfect world.

cheers

Just curions.... what did you end up reving the engine too, and can you post a dyno sheet?

For sure, I will get a cuple runs off the owner & try post em as soon as I can.

We pulled it 7600-7700
