Has anyone heard of or encountered this problem before?

I'd be checking for vacuum leaks first, TPS second.

I've lost count of how many Falcon TPS's I've replaced.

Might be the idle control valve.
They do get clogged and exhibits the problems stated.

I worked at trinity ford for a while, the most common things to cause this where dirty throttle bodies and also the pcm tune, ford continually had upgrades coming out, so try cleaning the throttle body first if that doesnt work, i would take it to a dealer for a upgrade

theyre map sensored bud,

2nd vote for cleaning throttle body out. Has fixed the BA in the past for me.

Does not have a dedicated idle control motor as such due to the fly by wire the PCM can open and close throttle to regulate idle.

MAP does not change a thing.

as ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ said.... i have a map sensor as standard and have a idle control valve.... almost every car pre fly by wire and post carb has one im pretty sure

I don't like being told what to do, and when some aluminium cased box of gears and friction plates tells me that it's time to change up, I really get pissed off. I will decide when it's time to change gears and sometimes I'm right. So the old smarty-pants automatic transmission isn't my best friend
