Quick question, suitable mech to do a timing belt change on a r33.

not a fan of being quoted 500 plus for a belt. so i am supplying my own belt. not interested in doing it myself as i am packing to move interstate. looking to do it in the next week once my belt arrives in the mail.

cheers.

i hope your doin water pump, idler and tensioner at the same time and also crank and cam seals.. for $275-280 you get the complete kit with idler, tensioner, 3xseals and a heavy duty gates kit.. and than another 150 or so for the water pump.

What belt have you got coming?
If you need the bearings/seals as well, i probably got a kit at work, if Warrick ain't
allready bought them all. :)
But that kit will have the belt too, one of the Gates racing belts.

quick question....

got a gates timing belt fitted today from my local mech...

car now feels very very sluggish.

i have heard noisey belts in the past, but never heard of a belt causing a vehicle to run like crap.

should i look more into it, or will the car re-learn itself?

before the belt change, the car was running like a dream

********
sussed it out, and my thought have come as its missing a tooth or the cam timing needs to be looked at.
i seriously cant drive the vehicle. it stalls at lights, it cant idle. its running a hotter tempreture. stalls everywhere, lights, airco, driving along and pressed the clutch in, driving up a driveway.

its very larthagic (*spelling)

Sounds like the timing is retarded. My advice to you would be using a timing light and checking the timing. If u don't know how to do that then find someone that can. There are a few ways to get a signal for it. (I tend to use an old lead and cut the boot that would go to the dizzy add some tape to the end to bulk it up and put that in the number 1 coil plug the other end to the spark plug and bobs your uncle.

Worst case ur 1 tooth out..

Take timing cover off and have a look at timing marks (crank engine to tdc manually). And check the marks all line up.. I don't go by the belt I physically line the indents up with the marks on the engine. As a double check count the teeth from one edge to the other (you will see the s.o.p in a manual). Hope it goes good for you. Other than that do a quick sweep through the engine and note anything that seems out of place.. Iacv would be the next place id be looking and the aac valve (idle up valve) stalling issue could be that's fkd or been adjusted wrong.

If you are having problems with a business and would like to seek some advice, refrain from writing the business name as you may wind up in a bigger mess, including defamatory charges.
