Held by the Charters Towers Drag Racing Club!

Last year was such a massive success we have penciled in the comp again for June 12th, Saturday Night. Will once again coincide with the weekend of the Swap Meet so well worth making the trip.

All the details are yet to be confirmed but want to start generating some interest.

Looking forward to seeing some top quality cars perform.

Who's going to be there????

The last burnout competition we held was such a huge success that it will now become an annual event held every Queens Birthday Weekend.

Planning is well underway and the date has been secured for 12th June at the Charters Towers Go Kart track on Flinders Highway.

The Burnout Competition shares the weekend with the Charters Towers Restorers club as they hold their annual "Motor Show and Swap Meet" so its a great opportunity to head to the Towers for the whole weekend.

The Burnout Competition will be held on the Saturday night with the motor show open on both Saturday and Sunday at the Showgrounds.

Brackets for the Burnout Competition include:
8 cylinder, 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder. (no motorbikes sorry).

Judging will be determined on:
Instant Smoke ../20
Constant Smoke ../20
Driver Control ../20
Crowd Response ../20
Blown tyres ..bonus 5 points

More information will be posted as the event gets closer and nomination form posted. Call Simon for more info 0417 602 315

Excellent wekend but get in quick if you want Motel accommodation as a couple of weeks ago it was scarce. I think there should be plenty of camping spaces though, does anyone know what the go is for that?

What's the format for the burnout comp? ie 1 judged skid or 2 rounds & a final or something else.

Is there a bar at the go cart track for after burnouts drinks? what are the facilities (showers, toilets) at the go cart track?

The Burnout comp starts at about 7pm on Saturday night. There is a bar and hot food available.

There are three rounds for each bracket and then the scores are added up to get your winner and runner up.

There are toilets and showers at the kart track but you'll have to bring a generator for your own power.

In the middle of conversations with a feature car who is hopefully coming from up your way.

Nomination forms will be posted to this site this week and will be $60 to nominate.

Hear you guys in Cairns run a pretty wicked Burnout Comp so hope some of you can make it down this way. Our concrete burnout pad is approx 25m x 40m with a concrete run up approach which is 6m wide and about 50m long.

Puts a lot of pressure on competitors to do back to back runs which is pretty savage on mechanicals, especially trannys. Fair enough have three rounds but you shouldn't be penalised if you are trying to put on a good show and somethings gives out on you. Shouldn't it just be judged on the best score from each competitors runs for each of the brackets??? Also what is the prizemoney going to be like for this event?? Heard there is some unhappy people about the lack of prizemoney from the weekends drags, especially after how good things have been for the last couple of years. Hardly worth flogging your car to death or making the effort to travel there for no return. You at least need to let people know it's trophies only. Just want to try and help you all so you don't get in the situation where people don't come back cause they are pissed off.Posted Image

Thanks for your comments mate. There was prize money and its now been sent out to the winners and runners up. Things got a bit hectic on the day so we had to send out monies after the event.

For the burounts winner gets $300 and runner up gets $100.

Should be a good show. I might see if I can tag along for the trip with someone. Maybe get some filming done..... see what happens. If not hopefully you get some good photos/video and post it up here.

Just letting everyone know that unfortunatly our insurance isn't allowing us to have passengers whilst vehicles are doing their burnouts. We tried to include passengers but as we run with ANDRA they wouldnt allow it. Does anyone know what insurance does allow passengers? We might look into that for next time.

Should be a good night anyway. Everyones phones have been running hot with people confirming they will be there. Theres going to be some pretty nice cars.

On behalf of myself and Jim Id like to say a big thank you to everyone up there in Charters Towers it was an awesome night and was a great atmosphere.

Myself and Lyndell would also like to thank the people from the Royal Private Hotel in town for giving us a room for the night and setting up the 3 mattresses on the floor for our kids.

We will be back ripping up the pad for the next one for sure!!

Thank you once again.
