Hi guys, I've been reading up on wats been happening on ppl trying to get something happening in Townsville for drifting. I've seen ppl aak the v8 track with no luck. Has anyone thought along the lines of using someone from townsvilles land to make a track on? I'm talking land in a place like blue water or oak valley. Also does anyone seriously think with some talking to the council a grant to make a track would be realistic? I mean convincing the council it will fix the hooning in townsville will help even though that's untrue? Just a thought

There was talk about this topic some months ago.
Bottom line:
1) No one wants to give up their land for this type of behavior *cough* sport.
2) No foreseeable proof of income for the people who owns the land.
3) Its fuggen expensive.

Hmm. Well Do you know if anyone at all has communicated with council about putting up some money? I was actually thinking about buying a block of land out oak valley way as an investment which could be used as a facility if there's some glimmer of hope of getting money from the council. I might write to them and see what there position on that would be.

Council will not just give you money to do it. You'd need to be a registered club or the likes with an ABN to apply for a grant and also have some form of business plan and building plans before even approaching them. You'd also need to probably look at EPA issues regarding noise etc. The only real way around all that is temporary use of something existing but you'd still need insurance, and money to pay who ever owns the property you're using.

Most grants be it council, state or federal also require funding from yourself to the likes of no less than 50%. They typically will match up to dollar to dollar for what you can fund, but there are also hundreds of other groups applying for that same money.

If you're not aware there was drifting in Cairns for around 18 months, but it got hit on the head unfortunately. It has been given the green light again on the condition of $10,000 bond upfront, which is far more affordable than finding land, going through the garbage you have to go through and then funding construction.

I thought people would have jumped to help raise some bucks, but it has been in the same situation for the last 12 months and not gone any where and as I have many commitments as it is I am unable to try raise the $10,000 myself. 50 people @ $200? 100 people @ $100? Not too much I think but I got things to manage that are regular and supported so my time goes to those events.

Have helped out at a few Stadium Drift events in Tamworth NSW, the guys here use a go kart track and seems to work quite well as it's fairly tight and technical, it's probably been raised but has anyone looked at the go kart track as a starting point for some drifting? Is there any sort of motor/gymkhana events in Townsville? Moving back in three weeks and would love to get some slapping up and running on a legal level.

It's an expensive notion using a Cart track / Motorkhana track with licencing and that sort of thing, but with enough interest..

Would definately been keen in doing whatever i can do to get it running, because i have seen first hand the impact it has on reducing street drifting etc as people who can go to a legal event give the muppets that do it constantly on the street a roasting, but when no alternative's i guess that what happens.

I can't comment on Townsville, because I have few contacts there, but it's a goer in Cairns pending finances. All the bullshit mind numbing stuff is done, but it lacks finances. It has been this way for a while now and isn't enough interest for me to persue it. It really relies on the enthusiasts regarding Cairns. You can read previous threads to see what the story is regarding that.

I think up here it must be lower budget... more of fun track days than competition. People are keen to thrash their car, but no where to do it.

I dont think the Townsville Go kart club will let cars drift on it. Its one of the main things they stress not to do while we use it for the sprints.

There is a Motorkhana coming up soon, on the website it states Sunday the 28th Dec, which is actually a tuesday. I will find out the correct date hopefully soon thou.

Even a drive up to Cairns isn't a bother, just don't want to be faced with the only of being go to Brisbane. I shall get my trusty steed and rally support where i can lol
