That's the biggest load of crap I've heard of, ever. As above.... who comes up with these idiotic fines? It's ludicrous. Can't even work on your own car on your own property.....

Could be two sides to this story. It can be living hell being next door to people who go overboard on what is done at home and afterhours. I'm not defending the council or anything as i do my own fair share of home handiman-ness :D but it would be good to know what the nebourhood did complain about. Probably only a law dragged out when really needed, but lets hope this article doesn't spur on whinging and whining poeple everywhere to have a shot.

Yeah I'm willing to wager old mate was doing a bit more than the occasional oil change... Maybe he was being a bit inconsiderate of his neighbours, angle grinding at night until late or something. Like the article says, someone actually had to complain before the council was obliged to act. They would have been enacting a bylaw which is technically valid, but not often enforced.

Typical hack journalism, not stating all the facts in the interests of sensationalism.

one has to remember that logan is the brisbane equivalent of Manunda or Bentley park, so you can almost guarantee there old mate was doing far more than just working on his car on the odd occasion that would make the neighbours want to complain about noise issues etc...

could be wrong, but i doubt it..

If theres a law for this imagine what other laws there is out there that people dont know about? Better be careful guys might get fined for taking a piss in your toilet with the window open in case you fart and release toxic chemicals into the atmosphere.... or walking around the yard with no shirt on, thats indecent exposure yea? if an old biddy thinks its offensive? Seems there just about is a law to stop you from doing ANYTHING in place and they just keep it there in case they need to use it.... this one just popped up in public for the first time.

But as Dion said, lets just hope people dont jump on the bandwagon and dob in every person they see working on there cars...

Whats the law if you are rebuilding your motox bike engine? What about a lawnmower? What about a registered motorcycle? Same as a car in terms of the law yea?

Maybe its the governments way of trying to stupidly force people to go to a dealership so you can hopelessly sit there and pay them $100 an hour to do something half as good and and half as safe as yourself ( but they are a dealership so its all legal and above the law ) so you can be back on the road SAFELY :fool: Remember every extra hour labor a person pays to a workshop thats an extra $10-20 or more tax in the governments bank accounts.

What a JOKE, mowing the lawn releases more gas and makes more noise than most people do working on there cars but i spose the ratchet click of my socket wrench could disturb some old lady whos trying to watch wheel of fortune... And if the guy was grinding or whatever at a stupid hr send the pigs there and give him a noise complaint... dont make up more useless laws, theres more than enough as it is, concil are just money hungry gits...

raging at only being able to check tyre pressures and change wiper blades, that's just plain BS. Not that anyone on here will actually take any notice of it.

I'm guilty of doing a bit of fab work in the shed at less than favourable hours, but I'd be more than accommodating if the neighbour popped his head over the fence and asked me to quit it.
I think most of us are guilty to a point, a party/BBQ, cranking some tunes etc past the favourable hours...
I'd like to think none of us would be 'hostile' if confronted about it...

I bet Mr Arnold gets a smile when he pays his rates though!
Hmmm.

Done more than my fair share of fab work at late hours of the night/early morning, the music down the road from the stoners/druggos is louder than my drop saw tho at midnight.

but if asked to stop by anyone i do.

exactly most people will quit if asked. But 99% people dont they get the law involved because their spineless C*nts. Soon enough we wont be able to do anything except go to work and drive home in our econoboxes then the point will come when all shit will break loose and all these spineless pricks will be laid flat on the road and goverment will have to go underground for fear of being killed for destroying public rights

What the government wants is more people taking cars to mechanics since that costs money and money means taxes and taxes means profit. Just one step closer to a throw-away society.

I'd bet he has been operating as a workshop for others cars and not just his own... With no licenses, approvals, or insurance...

Or spray painted his car in the shed, getting over spray over the next door neighbors Lexus, or BMW... In which case, i'd be spewing as well!

There is much more to the story than is being told there....
