Reputable companies selling chips for $150???? Where and who???? And eBay aint reputable! Don't kid yourself. Tuning a car isn't just a matter of shoving it on the dyno pushing some buttons and getting it out of the place. Most shops will tell you there's no money in tuning AT ALL, as the amount of stuffing around involved, let alone the $150,000 dyno and the many thousands of dollars worth of tuning software and other tooling. I have spent over $15k just to tune Kalmaker stuff, and that was in my own small business - now I have access to a 4WD Mainline dyno and extra tooling which I could never afford by myself... And people wonder why shops charge for work lol.
Anyway - back on topic. Your VN has the delco ECU standard. Kalmaker would be your best option for a tune, as it utilises the standard factory ECU and retains all factory qualities of the car (cold starts, lean cruise etc etc). Many aftermarket systems can do the same, but it will cost you alot more....
I'm not sure who the "dude" was at HDT, but I tune all their Kalmaker cars there. No-one has spoken to me about your enquiry, but I do believe we have spoken about this since your post?
Cheers

Back in '97 I had a VS V8 that had a wade 325C cam, (same as a 286), and almost same mods as yours, Racekraft in Melb did a chip 4 me, total cost $480, made 201KW @ wheels. Chips that are advertised as "instant performance gains" off ebay, etc. lift the rev limiter, shift points and slightly higher fuel curve, not much else. Pretty much same chip that was used in 185i KW HSV with knock sensor. Tell them ur mods and they will get pretty close. brett

do ya self a favour mate and follow what leppy is say. down here in melbourne we also do alot of after morket tuning and kalmaker is the best option without replacing the ecu all togeather. it makes the tune real time. we've made upwards of 220 odd kw at the wheels with similar combo's.
cheers james
