Hi all,

I think I have read almost every single thread in the drift session, I see a lot of QLD Scene members are very keen and supportive of the 'Drift Scene' and are dying for a track here in Cairns.
I know it is a touchy subject and I give my full respect to Sinister who has put in the long hours to try and make something work, as I have read and if this has changed please correct me, the biggest issue is the finances & in a way, lack of evidential support, because as we all know NOTHING is free and rarely simple.

The comment that interested me most was Sinister pulling the reins and advising that he has done all he can do at this point (which is very understandable) & letting everyone know that it is now up to the enthusiast! Now since that comment, not much has happened, been mentioned, almost nothing. No petitions, fund raising, events? Come on people, if you want this to happen, let's do something.

I am not making this thread to criticize what has been done or what hasn't been done, I am doing it to try make something happen! I am willing to walk down the middle of Cairns city and get people to sign a petition or organize an event like a Show n Shine or Classic cars, something we can keep going and get money at the gates to go towards what we all want in the end, DRIFTING. lol what are you willing to help out with? One or two people can't make it happen, support is needed!

Obviously if there isn't enough support or people wanting to put the effort in, it will be forever a dead sport here, something is needing to be done and we don't have little green & red midget elevs that are going to prepare it for us, we need to make something happen.

What are your ideas? Have you started helping already? Share your opinions! Originally I was going to start a drift forum for NQ (Cairns) BUT finding this site, I don't have to, well I hope we have enough supporters on here to make a difference.

This won't happen over night, unfortunantly but the sooner it continues to get started the better & stop thinking everyone else will do it because by the looks of it, no one is (those who have, you're excluded, lol) If we do fund raisers, it might take a year to get the money we need, but if nothing is done, nothing is achieved.

Thanks for reading my 'bitch' ...

You win some, you lose some.

How about we organize a topless car wash, plenty will get off their asses and help out to get that rolling!

Someone say topless car wash?

But seriously........

$10,000 is a bit if coin, albiet only a bond. No damage and you get the 10k back. In the past the most damage was a bit of dirt taken from some corners but nothing a bit of crusher dust couldn't fill. The event running costs were not so bad, but the bond was a nail in the coffin I think.

Off the top of my head I think there was 28 drivers at the last event. Not amazing, but not bad either considering the lack of publicity it had and short life of gaining momentum.

All it really needs is someone motivated to try and raise a good deal of that $10,000 I think and someone to be responsible for that money.

There are plenty of people to put their hand up to help on the day, put out posters, fliers, whatever, just not raise the $10,000 needed. Everything else has been done. It could happen tomorrow otherwise.

10 people at $1,000 each.
100 people at $100 each.

I'm probably also not as keen to devote as much time to it as I was. Doing things now that I wasn't back then and got enough on my plate. I am trying to lessen my load. With that said.... there really isn't a lot / anything to be done to run or promote it.

Yes, $10,000 is a lot of money & when you look at it in a way of a Fund raising event @ $10 per person, it looks too far to fetch! 1000 people at $10, 10 events with 100 people. Possible? I think so!
How many 'drift' sessions is a $10,000 bond going to get? Or is it worked around their timestable?
28 drivers is a pretty good turn out, sometimes QR doesn't even get that, so for something with minimal publicity, 28 is a good start!

I will work my fingers to the bone, even drive to cairns of a weekend to help with this. Coming from a town where we had regular meets at the go kart track which then moved to raceline stadium drift events, to moving up here and nothing. I will do what ever it takes.

While it has been sitting doing bugger all for the last couple of years the issue is $$$$$ .... This would need to be revisited as circumstances have probably change since then so more time needs to go in to it. Getting it happening again wouldn't be very hard at all.... but there would still be the issues of funding.

Someone (not me) needs to approach local business and get pledges for support or something similar to get this happening. All the ground work has been done, but until someone raises some money it'll continue on the path it is currently on.

i have a question regarding the v8 track in townsville?? why are we not allowed to use one of the back sections that are away from public roads? is it because of the potential damage we could cause to the track or the rubber that will be left on the track?? there are other tracks around the world that are used for both drifting and racing, so i assume there is a way to remove the rubber from the track or something along those lines..

anyone care to explain?

It will never happen, were not even aloud to use the car park for motorkhana's because they are scared we will rip it up. ( dont mind the semi's turning the front wheels on the spot though....)

Pretty sure a V8 supercar is going to put more stress on bitumen than a regular road car. High speed, slicks and cornering means a lot of force. Lower speeds and little grip means little stress.

Yes I know that but they will use any excuse. At the end of the day they make no real money out of it so their not going to let you use it. Especially for "hooning" encouraging sports like drifting ( thats all they see).

Don't get me wrong it would be awesome if we could use it but I just don't see it happening.
