how do I adjust hydrolic lifters (valves) properly to make my engine run smooth

Are you sure? I thought most Toyota motors had overhead cams. What motor does your hilux have? BTW, AFAIK there is no adjustment possible on hydraulic lifters, the "hydraulic" bit is supposed to make it self adjusting.

yeh, if its hydraulic then you cant adjust them unless u can use shims?(not sure on the old 3y).....if they are noisy then u need new lifters or different oil normally,..

You used to be able to get (probably still can) products to free up noisy lifters. A few different manufacturers, STP and Barrs probably amongst them, claiming to reduce oil burning and lifter noise amongst other things. Probably worth a try.

yeh, lucas does a good oil additive once u get them to free up, i think wynns does a good one also
