Here is one to think about.... why is it every time a topic like this turns up it's pages long, but a topic on on an auto related event or the likes is lucky to be 1 page long. Maybe no topics that interest people? Good reason to start a topic that does. The forum is only as good as the members and what they contribute, not anything I do.

The reason I started QSS was so like minded people with any interest in vehicles whatsoever could all come to one place and talk about their car, what's going on in their regions and meet new like minded people, which I think it has done up and down over the years. I think it still achieves this, but perhaps not as much as it used to. I've always pushed QSS to be more than just an Internet thing, people to use it as a tool to promote their organised events or just catch up for a BBQ, whatever, but I have little time these days and to be honest it gets very tiring doing it on top of a regular life. There is no reason anyone else can't organise a cruise or run an event at a venue or whatever, it's just a matter of someone having initiative to do it and not waiting for someone else.

These days I concentrate on the burnouts. I enjoy it more. Otherwise I try and be a random in the crowd at anything else and enjoy myself.

A BBQ can be as simple as stating a location to meet, when to be there, and a destination. Someone fork out $50 for snags and drinks and re-coup from the money afterwards. Piece of cake. Only as difficult as you want it to be. There is genuine interest there, but someone needs to organise it.

probly odd coming from me.....but i completely agree with Wazz here, the car scene was extremely strong, we used to have cruises every thursday night, most people had decent cars and were anywhere from 17-30 years old on average, there wasnt as many p platers out in there mums cars, but cars we had spent our entire pay on just to be out and about cruising around, shit, i remember not coming home till 4am friday mornings after thursday nights cruising and meet up's, then getting up for work at 7am.... and the same went for most friday and saturday nights, there was always a crowd to go for a drive with, and end up out at the beaches/copperload dam lookout/kuranda lookout etc talking and chilling out, so as for "never a car scene"....... thats the biggest load of shit ive ever heard!!,....... like i said earlier, it comes down to time, which no one really has at the moment, people spend most there time working, and have other hobbys, which is understandable, i for one want to see the car scene back up and going again for sure, some of my best teen years where out cruising, met sum great people, and made for some great stories that i plan on telling my 3 kids when they are older....... so be great to see it fire up again so the younger 'enthusiasts' can get a bit of guidance.......because drift wings on commodores arent kool.....nor are skinny jeans and kia rio's with subwoofers...... lol, like Wayne just said, a meet and great bbq would be a great start....
now i have heard everything.what do you call decent cars, hairdresser cars, stock v6 commodore with a set of mags.well my version of decent cars are modified cars that looks good sounds good and would turn the earth.and the main thing is they go drag racing.

ok... now your obviously not really reading anything thats posted correctly, im refering to long before the commodores with big wheels, im talking about the days that most of the cars that showed up either had between a mild cam and full house race engines, the days where you would walk around looking at cars because the quality was close to what you would see (if not better) than some of the local car shows at the time, i completely agree, thursday night maccas is over, and only really just a memory for most of us now, but like everyone has said, there is no reason the car scene cant pick up where it left off, i kno im willing to come along and even help organise when ive got spare time, il be attending the Movember cruise again also as long as my wife isnt in labour or close to it, as for decent cars, everyone in this thread has had there fair share of nice cars, and by nice, i dont mean hairdressers cars and v6 commodores...... id definately expect to see you on one of these future cruises also, just so you can show us how its supposed to be done.....

end rant
Dan

There's been a bit of interest here, you would think, as founder, you would be a little more pro active in "striking while the iron is hot."

If you don't give a damn about something you created, then you cant expect anyone else to. A BBQ is simple, and im sure we have many, but what the members of this site would like is a QSS BBQ. Or change the name to QueenslandComputerScreen. Cause there aint no street, and there sure as hell aint no scene.

Even offered to fund the BBQ........Probably meet some members at the Movemeber cruise then.
Waiting for ban. :)

Oh and the Cairns Rex club has track days, and other such social events, so keep an ear out, and come and say hi. We're a friendly bunch

So who is up for setting up a new car club up here in cairns? It can be affiliated with QSS as long sinister is happy with that. Any input from members who have run one before would be most helpful. I would like a indication in here before I start a new thread. Sometimes starting fresh can be the best way to move forward.

Why would I ban you? Who said I don't give a damn either?

I was pointing out that I've done more than my fair share over the years. It's not up to me to do everything. This is a place where anyone can post and create an event. Just like other forums where people start their own cruises and what not, no reason same can't be done here. Not up to me to do everything. I've managed QSS for over five years now, produced DVDs of local and distant events, run the only drifting to happen in Cairns (NQ even?) and I run the burnouts currently. The drifting was offered to someone else to manage and went no where. The burnouts alone is a monumental task. Also help with many other auto events over the years and still do.... I've given up thousands of hours of my life. I still give up heaps of my time, but my point was that surely someone else can have a crack at running something as simple as a BBQ.

Mate I've been part of a few clubs. Street Machine Association of S.A, Commodore crazy car club, hsv owners club. Some good some not so. Politics and rank are there because if there weren't nothing would get done. It just needs to be done the right way. Not havin one ( car club ) doesn't seem to be working here either. So we strike one from a potential club. No biggie.
I understand they are not for everyone. But they are a better way for new people to meet like minded people. I found it hard to meet the people up here when I first got up here. I found it very clicky..........Still do

I'm in for the movember cruise, if i'm not away for work. Home almost every weekend so good chance.

I'll even put my hand up to man the BBQ or the ice cream container till for the sausage sizzle

Not real keen on maccanats as it's not my scene, my car is not a show car, it's not a monster and I don't have much time during the week.

but you are right and yes it normally is the hardest to get someone to do considering how many tight asses there are in this place haha

Also as for a bbq i dont think its worth doing it for charity just yet, do it as a meet and greet just to get people out and about than once theres a bit of a collection do the whole charity thing

I'm hoping my piece of shit will be ready for the movember cruise :D
