Townsville dragway will be having king of the hill meet on the saturday 11 november.

This is an event with a long history and a cash prize of $1000 to the winner of the street bracket races. The best street cars will be here from Rockhampton in the south to the far north and from Mt Isa in the west. It is a full race meeting with brackets for other vehicles included.

in 2005 this meet attracted 90 nominations from all over Queensland.

As i get more details: gate opening and costs will let everyone know

Heard theres atleast 5 coming to run king of the hill - no names but 3 hav raced here in last year

remember one year about a dozen put their cars on a couple of transporters and they and the crew rode in a bus. just so they could party all nite and way home .. good idea.

Some may have had the idea King Pin of the shit pile. I personal always thought King of the Hill - may mean you climbed to the top, all over other contenders and left them in a pile behind you, making you numero uno, A number 1 or as it is titled KING OF THE HILL. That mountain run has not been around anywhere near as long as the drags event.
From past experience, you can either nominate before hand, or on the gate on the day. But if there is going to be anywhere near the numbers i think might turn up. Better to nominate before hand. Qualifying in afternoon. First 3 time trials are counted, but you can get more runs in until qualifying closes. At night brackets are lined up according to your fastest time trial and then race till a winner is left.
Time trials also give you an idea of what to dial in at for each round.........
If i'm wrong, somebody correct me. Its been a couple of years of so since i raced. ;)

Close enough the format basicaly hasn't changed over the years but as I just posted in another topic the King Of The Hill Event is run with a few different Categories on offer but the actual King Of The Hill Section is for Street Registered or Registerable cars, the others race in different Categories, it's not open slather as I saw posted earlier, so all you street cars go down and have some fun

Be like the rest of us HR turn up and see, it will be awesome as always it's one of the best street meetings of the year - but make sure your read the rules one and all - KOTH Bracket will be Street Registered or Registerable all others will be in other brackets and there are always plenty of other brackets on offer. Good Luck hope to see you all there

Townsville Dragway Rocks the last meeting was awesome, who ever didn't turn up well what can I say it sucks to be you cause we all had a ball, a heap of new personal best some really good racing some fun with some novelty entrants like HR Man on his Thumpster, the jet cars were excellent and well the drought has finally broken for good old DINGO DAN - AKA Danny Boothby after ten years of racing down there he finally won, Top Qualified in his Class then went through to win running personal bests all day and night and he did it in his Ford. Not the old Torana he campaigned for so long. Budget built car, basic principals and good old fun. Congratulations to Bruno second in the Race Car Class and new personal bests to Shane & Mel on their Bikes, keep it up guys and see you all at the KOTH.

to win, is it for consistent times? not for who beats the other person but for who gets the most runs at the same time?

please explain

A racer who has a very quick, tuff car, but cant consistently repeat a good performance round after round can very easily be beaten by a much slower car. The handicap system of dial your own racing equalises the performances so everyone is on an even basis. A .400 reaction is a perfect light. But if your reaction is say a .800 then you are giving you opponent and extra light head start. So the basic idea of winning in D.Y.O racing is to get the best reaction off the startline each time, to keep the car going as straight as possible( fishtailing or wandering across the track actually lengthens the track that you travel) and change gears at exactly the same RPM and time each run.
Once you and your vehicle are at peak performance then you will be a very competitive force to be reckoned with. :)

Consistancy wins hands down. Fair dinkum racing to the numbers and no sand baggers.
