SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for LARGE HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WIND, VERY HEAVY RAINFALL and FLASH FLOODING
For people in the
Capricornia and parts of the
Central Coast & Whitsundays,
Central Highlands & Coalfields,
Wide Bay & Burnett and
Maranoa & Warrego Forecast Districts.
Issued at 2:48 PM Monday, 12 February 2007.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds, very heavy rainfall and flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Major locations within the warning area include Roma, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Emerald, Mackay and Blackwater.
The Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES in your local government area, listed in the White Pages under either State Emergency Service or your local council.
The next warning is due to be issued by 5:45 PM.
