Hey all.
I'm thinking of replacing my current 3F 4.0L Cruiser engine with something a bit more 'treet' and higher performance.
Does anyone know what engine I'd be best to go with?
I can get a 300ZX Twin Turbo 300hp engine, but not sure if that would be any good.
Thanks heaps.
Steve.

You'd need something with alot of torque, what does your cruiser weigh?

If you do anything, look for a holden v8 conversion. Simple cheap and easy to maintain.
I actual think Castle Main Rod shop have a conversion kit made to fit a 308/5ltr into a cruiser its just a matter of buying the parts and bolting it in... I have a mate that has a cruiser ute with the same conversion but with a Turbo 400 auto behind the 308 which would be the way to go but of course will cost a little bit more...

Have a look at Caterpiller D1 or D2 Supercharged Deisel... if your keen for that... my cousin did that with his Cruiser ute... i can't rember if he had the D1 or D2 but which ever it was it bolted straight in... you'll need a better Diff and drive line Assembly... due to he snapped 2 until he found one tought enuf...

I'll try and find the photo's and post them up tomorrow for you...

the other problem you might have is with the Chassis... Jason's ute's chassis has been straghtened due to the motor twisting it up on him...

1uzfe V8 anyone??, good in oem form no mods 125rwkw,

add a pair of hairdryers and reap the rewards

as for the 300zx engine, these if tuned right can handle a shitload,

personally, i have one running 19psi on a near stock engine, (add injectors, fmic, and a decent remap)

these engines can handle their own, as for those ppl who say they blow up overheat e.t.c, B/s, thats the biggest load of crap i have ever heard,

either way a 300zx engine is good off boost too, if you want to build the ultimate get a NA add the Twin turbos, and you'll have a very responsive engine

gone are teh days of 8:1 compression raito with high boost

build something with 9.0 : 1 or 9.5:1 (i.e stock na), and add some boost can make the power easier with lower boost

ur best bet is either:

1uzfe - 4L v8 pro's: is a toyota engine, hell strong (have heard of over 1000hp with only cam and valve springs done). cons: bit pricey

308/350 etc SBC - lots of torque plenty of pre-fab conversion kits. will like to drink the fuel.

454 etc BBC - see above then double both points

6.5L Chev desiel - see 2 above but not so bad on fuel. still quite pricey.

The prob ur gonna find with any of those is the LC diff's unless u got lockers in there already they're not gonna handle much. ur best options that way is : get them braced with detriot tru-trac or similar, ford 9"s cut down to suit, dana 60's from a jeep or the best option imo is gu patrol diffs, grab the rear lsd model and get a lsd locker for the front and u'll be laughing... those things are next to unbreakable.

i used to work at opposite lock so if u got any q's just send me a pm... i might even be able to help with discount on parts.
