The Holden engine sounds alright, is that the 3800?

no... the 308 is a 308ci (5.0L) V8. the 3.8L v6 i think would be a bit small to pull a cruiser around... better suited to suzuki's or gemini's... an injected 308 (i think the injected model are actually 304, but a 5.0L neway) would be tops nice torque, plenty of parts easily available. and there is easily a dozen different companies that make kits to fit it in... ur's is a SWB isn't it... only issue u might find is with tailshafts if its lifted. but nothing more than lifting it with stock motor.

It's a mid-wheelbase, and isn't lifted, if anything, it will be going down.
I think I'd rather an electronic engine that has ECU etc, more of a Supra/Skyline sort of thing. Not going for the big American Muscle V8 thing.
Mind you I can't be too picky, especially with prices so I'll just spend a bit longer researching replacements.
Thanks heaps
Steve

if u want a jap engine u might as well stick toyota, so the options are
1uz-fe from a soarer. if you want an 8
or
2jz-gte from a supra. if u want a turbo 6
in something the weight of ur car an NA 6 would be next to useless for what it sounds like u want. there is the 1jz-gte but its only a 2.5L so the lack of torque would be quite noticable.

The current engine is a 4L, produces 155HP standard, then I've put extractors and an exhaust system.

I would be looking at a 308 out of a vn ss. Have a look on the rock craling sites they will have links to all sorts of mods.
FYI the 253 has 161hp stock and will cost $900 for an adaptor plate to bolt to your cruiser box. The 253 in my gemini was originally for a '75 cruiser short wheel base but the chasis was fuct.
you will need to be careful that yo don't get a block older than your car 'cause you wont be able to register it.

as for the 300zx engine, these if tuned right can handle a shitload,
personally, i have one running 19psi on a near stock engine, (add injectors, fmic, and a decent remap)
these engines can handle their own, as for those ppl who say they blow up overheat e.t.c, B/s, thats the biggest load of crap i have ever heard,

I have done quite a few V8 LANDCRUISER CONVERSIONS.
You have 2 options to source your conversion kit from:
1. CASTLEMAINE ROD SHOP
2. MARKS CONVERSIONS
Both have excelent kits, with everything you need down to the clutch kit.
As far as i know they only do the kits for CHEV,HOLDEN & FORD V8's.
MARKS CONVERSION KITS are in my opinion is the choice of the 2.
Another option is to contact EAGLE IMPORTS buy an LT1 EFI 5.7 V8 CHEV COMPLETE WITH LOOM ECU ETC, purchase your conversion kit, YOUR AWAY.
The LT1 is a good reliable engine, has a huge range of performance aftermarket parts available, makes plenty of power & torque standard.
Eagle do these engines in many different forms, from stock to all out race.
Have 12 month 20000 km warranty.
Check them out, i am sure you will be suprised at what they have got and how well priced their stuff is.
