Cairns Swap Meet donates $11,000 to the Leukaemia Foundation Cairns.
Put together by the combined car clubs of Cairns( North Queensland Performance Ford Club, All American Car Club of Cairns, Top of the State Rod & Custom Car Club, Cairns Motorcycle Restorers Club, fnq Restorers Club) and supported by Many Sponsors. Enthusiasts from all over Far North Queensland turned up in droves to support the event with their awesome machines and cleaned out their sheds to sell off some rusty gold With over 130 swap sites this shows that ebay has not killed the swap meet at all.
Live music was on show for most of the morning and the weather was superb for wandering. Raffle sellers walked the grounds offering people the chance at winning a party in a barrow($250.00 Dan Murphies voucher and munchies including berocca for the morning after). Lots of food was available from the Rotary Club of Cairns West, some say their chips are the best but for me the german sausage with the works is king!
Those that wanted their cars judged only had to register and a number of trophies were handed out at the end of the day. The other thing done at the end of the day was to tally up what was raised for the chosen charity. and on Thursday the 22nd August we handed over $11000.00 to the Leukaemia Foundation Cairns Branch.
If anybody wishes to get involved or include their club in next years event (2nd Sunday in August) please call Neil 0423712011 or Bruce 0429910366.
